1x01 Port Fourchon, Louisiana

Not bad,definatley worth a watch.

I've read the book "North American Lake Monsters" by Nathan Ballingrud that this series's episodes are based on. I liked this episode but recall the story in the book as being weirder and not as tragic.

This episode is good but it's another example of every character having extreme flaws and it all seems so narcissistic. It's such a trend in new books, TV and movies right now. It's getting old. However, I did still think this was pretty good and it was interesting enough to stick with the series and see if some other episodes compare to those I liked in Ballingrud's book.

A lack of likable characters -- including a really annoying kid -- combines with a story that's more sad than scary, and it all creates too much of a challenge for this series premiere. Still, there's potential there, so I won't give up on it yet despite this disappointing start.
