This could have been a 10/10 season if this show would just stop getting in its own way. This is an excellent cast. The "cannon fodder" queens are gone early, the remaining queens slayed the competition, there were a lot of really fun challenges, and there were several healthy doses of drama along the way. Naomi Smalls slayed the season more than anyone could have ever expected, on top of GAGGING us by finally playing the game and eliminating the frontrunner. My personal favorites, Monet and Monique, also came and impressed all season long. And, of course, Manila performed amazingly as well, and Valentina was lots of fun.
But this show insists on ruining it for itself. The judging is sometimes questionable at best-- Monique didn't deserve either of her bottom finishes, Naomi was often overlooked, and Latrice was unjustly favored. The mid-season returnee twist ended up working better than expected, but the reason for the double crowning was SO transparent that it was insulting to the audience and baffling to watch. Ru was being pressured to crown a queen of color, but felt Trinity deserved the win, so we got that cobbled together double-win. If they hadn't twist-robbed Shangela of her All-Stars 3 win, they wouldn't be in this position! Better yet, if they insisted on double-crowning, maybe finally justly judge Monique for once, because she was just as worthy of a winner, if not more. Same goes for Naomi. I loved watching this season unfold, but that final winning montage is such a letdown after a very fun season full of amazing queens.
