Episode 2 of watching along with new Podcast, Talk Ville.
The pilot was a really good episode - dated for sure, but really good at the time. This second however has a really tough first half. The dialogue is rough, especially the "freak of the week" and Kristin Kreuk. I forgot how young she looked, especially in this episode.
Tom Welling is far more comfortable in Clark by this episode, than he was in Episode 1, now that's allowed to move outside of the dweeb character. Rosenbaum who I remembered being fantastic the entire series, was a little off this episode - especially in the conversation with Lana by the stables.
Second episode sees a reduction in budget, but they still go for it. Sure, the CGI is dated but I'm not going to hold 20 year graphics for the 2nd episode of a series, against a show. Again, its interesting watching Allison Mack on TV again, after all that's come out since. I wonder if Talk Ville will address her, I don't remember her being mentioned in Episode 1 of their podcast.
Not a massive drop in quality in Episode 2, but some of the writing could use a tune up.
I forgot how everyone was obsessed with Lana in the early seasons, haha
I wonder what the death count in Smallville ended up being by the end of the show?...
Not sure how I felt about this episode. I didn't like the whole spider plot, but it was good to see the further character development in Clark and Lex. It feels like Clark is finally coming into his power and starting to understand who he is and how he can use his differences for good.
And I just love Lex. He's been nothing but helpful and kind to Clark and everyone else in the show. He's a good friend.
I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series.
Synopsis: Smallville High geek Greg gets into a car accident while transporting his insect collection; when they bite him, he transforms into a human/insect hybrid. He has his sights set on Lana, and won't let anything--including Clark--get in his way. Will Lana be saved in time?
The Good: Superhero stories are known for their likable heroes, despicable villains, and epic action sequences; that's exactly what you get here. It's easy to see why this account of a young Clark Kent was as popular as it was back in the day.
The Bad: Though not exactly morally offensive, this was a bit harder-edged than I would have liked; see below for why.
Content Concerns:
Sex: Kissing and flirting.
Nudity: A guy is seen in the shower; nothing critical is seen.
Language: Two or three uses of the h-word; a song featuring (censored) f-words.
Violence: Fantasy action violence, which leads to a death; a human character is seen molting, bug-style; a character kills his own mother (not graphic).
Drugs: None.
Frightening/Intense Scenes: Scary villain; Clark's reaction to Kryptonite; a dead body is seen; emotional intensity,
Other: The villain is not only scary, but disgusting as well.
I hate bugs, so this episode definitely gave the the creeps.
The music is PERFECT!!

I forgot how great the music in this show was!
