I totally forgot that the Sao Paolo replaced the destroyed Defiant and was then renamed to Defiant.
The fact that Odo has been used as a WMD is just great. I still think it's a missed chance that Section 31 did this. It would have been so much more dramatic if Starfleet proper was responsible. Well, he's certainly not happy to here the news and obviously he doubts the veracity of the convenient section 31 story, but the repercussions are pretty limited. This story about genocide could have been the core of season 7. Instead everybody is pretty indifferent. Maybe there's only so much serious stories you can tell in this last stretch of the show. I mean, it's still an important part and it's the reason why the show ends like it ends.
The story on Cardassia is great. It shows, that Kira is an experienced rebel. Winning a revolution is best be done by winning the hearts and minds of the masses.
The story between Ezri and Bashir is silly. Still, I'm happy that his bachelor days are over and Ezri can have a happy end.
The main segment of this episode is the Fererengi story though. It's DS9's Renaissance Man. Just like that Voyager episode, it's a last entertaining hooray for the funniest character (and his extended family) before the dramatic show finale. It feels a bit out of place, considering that the world all around is burning, but it's a perfectly innocuous interlude before the last double feature. I'm glad they were able to squeeze this in. These little fellas deserved a decent goodbye. Rom becoming the Nagus makes no sense (or does it?) but he too deserved a happy end.
I always forget that they are having a baby (how does birth control work in the 24th century?) But that's also preparation for the happy end. She will have the baby (and Jake) to remind her of what they had. Not sure how comforting this will be but I appreciate the fact that Ben leaves "something of him" behind.
All in all it's a very good episode. Part of this is the nostalgia that kicks in. You suddenly realize that the show comes to an end. Only two episodes left. And thus I'm perhaps a bit emotional when watching this episode. I'm sure this episode isn't perfect but I'm just glad that things start to look like they will work out for the main characters. On a personal level. And somehow I never doubted that peace will return to the quadrant.
