A brilliant show that, unlike most Trekkies, doesn’t take itself to seriously and is able to poke fun at some of the sillier aspects of the universe without being a fully blown parody. The writing is great and the characters are as deep as we’ve come to expect from other adult animation.
Being both a Star Trek and Rick & Morty fan I had some hopes, giving not so much importance about how piss off was the community of Trekkies about prior CBS shows. However, sadly, at least the first chapter feels like a bad parody. There are a lot of references, but humor is not as compelling or good as prior Mike McMahan shows.
It's a comedy, in the style of the most popular shows in the genre. It's a show that seeks to get new fans. It's very good what they're doing
This is a good animated show. If you're a Star Trek fan it's a pretty good show. Is it Rick and Morty? No, but who cares? It's funny and goes beyond my expectations. This could have been a lame PG piece of garbage but it's legitimately entertaining and funny. The characters are great, the animation is dope, and it's excellent fan service.
Feels like a weak attempt to counter The Orville. Orville and Final Space are much better than this
Do yourself a favor and watch Futurama instead.

I like the show! It is a nice mix between Star Trek and Futurama. Recommended for everyone who likes Futurama and Star Trek.

Watched the first episode and I will not waste my time watching this ruining the Star Trek Universe.
Attempts WAYYYYY too hard to be like Rick and Morty, but actually, this is boring AF. Good, but not Great.
Is intended for a young audience specifically? I'd would much rather my children watch Discovery than this trite unethical unhumorous trash. The animation is thoroughly mediocre, the plot and dialogue is anything but nuanced, the alleged humor lacks anything that could be identified as such, and it's not even ethically canon: in the pilot episode one crew member describes another as "worthless", which flies in the face of Starfleet and Federation ethos and was met with approval by the captain and crew rather than punishment.
There is quite literally nothing redeeming about this program. It's an embarrassment to the entire franchise and the effect that Gene Roddenberry (Sr.) hoped it would have on human culture.
Just when you thought CBS couldn't make any worse Trek, they vomit out this garbage. Not a funny thing in it and the animation is appalling. Roddenberry must be spinning in his grave at warp 9.
As a HUGE trek fan who's also not up my own arse I gave it a go as I'll always watch anything Trek. It started off rocky but I've found the in jokes, the things shown/talked about they you never see in normal trek and the nods to everything trek to be highly amusing. If you take this more as a rick and morty meets star trek it's pretty enjoyable you just had to take it for what it is rather than a classic trek.
As an update to this after 2 seasons and very much looking forward to the third. Season 1 was good but Season 2 really brought the A game, the writing, the guests, the easter eggs and biggest of all CETACEAN OPERATIONS was excellent. This is easy one of my favourite feel good shows now
This was obviously done by people that really hate Star Trek, this show is atrocious and the sad part is that they could have done a fine job because the aesthetics is fine, the writing on the other hand is horrible, they could have done a whole series in the TNG universe and we would have love it, instead we get this lame attempt at humor, you know that kind that really piss you off.
The characters are filled with your expected trope, the rebel girl that insult all regulations but that in the end somehow saves the day, therefore reinforcing the message that you have to break the rules always and not only you don't face the consequences but you actually solve the problem! The comedy relief that of course is the one that wants to follow the rules of starfleet and instead becomes the target of all the insults and fails at everything.
Then comes the "class warfare" the elite on the bridge vs all those poor people in the lower decks, and of course the ones in the bridge never solve anything making them useless, but additional to that are bad people because never acknowledged the work of the "poor" in the lower decks. Do I need to go on?
The message of optimism in Star Trek are a thing of the past, now everything is dark, unfunny and with class hate. Btw all dumb characters are white and male and all smart and witty are female and of any other color than white, very subtle there guys, very subtle.
Guess they have a villain that looks like Trump! BTW I'm not even american and I'm already tired of that crap wish I could vote Trump just out of spite. Fuck off with this garbage.

It took a bit to get totally into it but after the 3 epsiodes rule I totally fell in love with the show. give it a chance and I'm sure you won't be too dissapointed

Those who hate it, too, will probably agree, those who like it may call me a disgruntled Trekkie. What the heck, I've been called worse.
I've endured the Abramsverse, Discovery, and Picard but this is where Star Trek dies.

It's different in tone to the usually sombre and serious Star Trek narratives. It's a comedy. However, it's different to similarly lighthearted The Orville. The stories here specifically revolve around the out-of-sight, out-of-mind, working-class staff of a Star-ship. For instance, sticking to the "Prime Directive" is the least of their concerns. It's a refreshingly new point-of-view IMHO, with so many possibilities.
Coupled with the 25 minute episode length, I can see how this show can appeal to a younger audience as well.
Rick and Morty is too vulgar and alcoholic for my taste. I like this show though. Loads of easter eggs and laugh out loud moments. I think Star Trek often takes itself too seriously. Mariner is willing to say what everyone else is thinking. However, the show needs more Tendi and Rutherford.
Watched the first episode twice, which is something I rarely do. Heard the critics but jonesing for Star Trek so bad that I don't care about details. I'm going to watch this. CBS did all right in my book.
The show grows on you after the first third. In the beginning it's just okay, but it somehow manages to build a story while keeping the mockery and fun.

I love most things Trek, including the ones a lot of die-hards hate on constantly, but this one just isn't doing it for me. I keep watching but I am always left with the feeling that "I want to like this show but I'm not sure I really do." For some reason, it just feels flat. Yes, I get the inside jokes and yadda, yadda but a random comment about O'Brian doesn't make an entire 30 min show feel like it was worth watching. Honestly, it's a bit like Lower Decks is trying to fit Trek into the Futurama mold to expand into the raunchy adult animated series market but it's missing the zing of that series. Heck, look at the main characters - the awkward lead guy (Boimler/Fry), the reluctant badass female companion (Mariner/Leela), the smart/dingy female tag-a-long (Tendi/Amy), and a cyborg that obsessively loves his job (Rutherford combines Bender/Conrad). This show needs to find a way to break away from the way too obviously seen comparisons and create something new. (Spoiler tag not really needed but added just in case)
I like some of the ideas and some of the places they've used the animation to take us - such as Dog and some of the aliens - but I feel they aren't really using the animation to its best potential. This format offers the Trek world to explore and see some things that a live-action series just can't, like worlds/aliens that would just be impossible to create within budget/CGI constraints. It also allows a chance to see things from eyes other than the main crew or the one or two randoms they occasionally interact with on a one-off basis. The best they've done at representing the latter so far was this most recent episode where they actively show how disconnected the main crew and the rest of the ship are from each other. I loved seeing that side.
I think if they really tried to create something new and special in the Trek world they could have a winner here, but it would require them stepping away from the other adult animation shows the creators obviously love. Don't get me wrong, they don't need to get rid of the raunchy/slapstick comedy and in-jokes, I love that stuff, but they aren't doing it well or originally enough to keep this show afloat with all its other weaknesses. At present, it just comes across as a second-rate Futurama that just so happens to be in the Trek world. With that said, I'm sure I'll keep watching to see how it grows.

Looks like it comes from the SAME animation studio as Final Space, with many of the same character tropes. Not a "counter" to The Orville, but a look at the Trek universe and canon from the eyes of the usually expendable "Redshirts". In this universe, Starfleet Command staff don't always have "the RIGHT stuff, but instead are very, VERY LUCKY, always egotistically looking for ways to "make history" so they can get a mention in the official books, and are prone to take credit for the lower deck Geeks good ideas, and actions.
Lots of hat tips and mentions to TOS characters, creatures, and memes, as well as a pretty hilariously accurate depiction as to what would probably occur if you ACTUALLY tried to spar someone with a Bat'leth. A bit of intrigue is injected with the disclosure of Ensign Beckett Mariner's lineage, which looks like it might be interesting.
Didn't quite hit it out of the park the first episode, but, a fun and entertaining look at an alternate perspective of the Trek verse...
