Sometimes I watch movies and shows and I'm like well I guess they're a product of their time but then I watch Star Trek and I'm like WOW they really did THAT and then it's difficult for me to excuse the shit from other shows and movies

Did I miss someting ? Where did that virus come from ? It either came from the holodeck (which should not be possible) or was it just there which also seems unlikely. Seemed like they just needed some story tool that prevents the away team from beaming up.

Anyway, not one of my favorite eps from S1. Good idea, very Trek, bad excecution. Scenes like Troy and Yar girlishly giggling upon seeing Riker didn't help much either.

"They're gone" and then the woman instantly steps out of the cave, lmao. They didn't check 2 feet around the corner?

I also like how they needlessly demonstrated the method of execution. I know that it's to show off the neat sci-fi gadget for the audience, but within the situation it doesn't make much sense. It's like using a guillotine on a watermelon before using it on a person.

Best scene: Riker wears the tunic with pride and puts Tasha and Deanna in their place. Although it's odd. In earlier episodes we have already seen male crew members of the Enterprise wear skirts. And we know that Betazoids marry nude. So why are they so giggly about Riker's garment? Riker is sexy and he knows it. He's one step away from becoming Captain Kirk.

The episode is obviously about the patriarchy, sexual, feminism and the death penalty. The episode is like a reversed looking-glass. It's supposed to discuss our Western society not the aliens' matriarchy (w/o being to preachy). For Deanna that's the first episode to be actually useful. Can't say she did an outstanding job. It's mainly Riker who does the heavy lifting here. It's odd that this topic has been discussed only a few episodes back in Code of Honor though.

The B-plot is funny-ish but inconsequential (aside the totally random beaming and time limitations). It's not even explained. Not even after COVID, this flu outbreak is exciting. It certainly can't rescue this episode. It's solid but not outstanding. Kudos for tackling this topic. A bit too much on the nose though, I'm afraid.

My favorite of season 1 so far. I enjoyed the drama of the stranded and the virus. It was chaotic and urgent.

My only complaint is some of the scenes with the women were cringe. Like troi and Yar objecting to Riker in the cultural garbs. Seems like something they would be use to as he was use to wearing the clothing of the leadership. I know this is paralleling the way the world is ruled by men so I can excuse the way the Mistresses acted but still hard to watch.

Also where did the virus come from? I really wanted to know.

This episode is obviously sexist but making all the men on the planet femboy twinks is very funny.

The story was good, as were the performances. I didn't care for the wardrobe, though, or the scene with Riker and that alien woman in bed. Still, this definitely isn't the worst episode of this series I've seen.

Riker wearing the Angel One outfit is truly a gift to mankind.
