There's a lot of butt-cheek showing here for a primetime 80s show. Wow.

I have watched this show so many times that I do look for other stuff going on now (watching it the first time in HD, too).

Did anyone notice Denis Crosby always grabbing her tricorder when she stood up and walked around? Seemed like the prob wasn't holding on to her uniform.

This is another episode that I am not looking forward to when I happen to watch the show again. A hyper-sexual society where everyone just seems to be making love all the time that has a death penalty for about every crime seems contradictory to me. The arguments against a death penalty felt unenthusiastic (personally I am opposed). And those godlike beings we don't see that speak in a booming voice (like probably some people think a god might) didn't really work well.

They summon the "children" and one of them has a hairy chest. Lmao. That ain't no child!

I like how Wesley is saying "it's alright, I'm okay" after smashing into the flower beds. Like, yeah, sure, him not being injured is important. But he's completely unconcerned with how he vandalized public property. He only starts to worry once everyone around him is so worried. Not saying it deserves the death penalty, but come on, dude, have a little shame.

Whatever is supposed to be on Tasha Yar's hip clearly isn't properly affixed to the costume. Denise Crosby is constantly having to put a hand on it whenever she has to move any amount of distance.
EDIT: Oh, haha, I wrote this comment before reading the others. I'm not the only one to make note of this.

This is the first episode of the show where I was genuinely captivated—not just for nostalgic or aesthetic reasons (although I’m pretty sure this was shot on the same set as Nude on the Moon by Wishman.) This is how I remember TNG and it really is glorious.

The writers finally started fleshing Picard out properly here, he’s cool, level-headed, and concerned. I love how the story here progresses and how it brings up its ideas of justice, the panopticon, surety, and the prime directive.

Another reviewer here has pointed out how this isn’t the best depiction of the prime directive in practice, I wholeheartedly agree (they should never have landed on a pre-warp planet.) However, I do love this situation a lot. It’s complex in its detail, but simple in its premise. A great hostage situation drama overall.

Plus, this just shows the logical conclusion of fascism is an ethnostate panopticon. Goofy, fun, smart, this is The Next Generation.

I’m with Picard I want to know more about the thing in oribit. Nice little trolley argument but really what did we expect the outcome to be? They weren’t going to kill the kid. The tuvok neelix mix up had more of a chance to come out either way
