Star Trek: Voyager: Season 3

3x15 Coda

Well, it's kind of all over the place but it sort of works. At first we think we're in a timeloop, then maybe Janeway has the Phage, then she's a ghost, etc. It would have been great if it had managed to keep me guessing, but alas, as soon as Janeways "father" shows up, it's obvious that it's just some kind of alien mind-control hallucination thing. That's just what Star Trek does.

One thing I did like was seeing all the backstory referenced from the novel 'Mosaic', which I read not that long ago.
I also couldn't help but notice that Chakotay's teeth appear to glow in the dark.

I don't like the general premise of this episode but I like how the Captain is motivating, guiding and observing the crew from the off. All in all it's another one of those mystery episodes that were always part of Star Trek but which I never liked. They really loved their mind experimenting and brain controlling aliens in Voyager.

The time loop stuff at the beginning doesn't really make much sense… How exactly does that fit in? That's the manifestation of her mind refusing to accept her death?

The question of what happens to us when we die is as old as mankind and one of the classics in sci fi. I'm not a religious person and I sure do have no answers. But I doubt there'll be an alien waiting, acting like Lucifer, trying to get our soul. I am glad there wasn't another alien trying to fight for it.
From a storytelling point of view it was a good episode to watch. The prospect of death for Janeway bears little weight on repeated watch, though. The episode also bears resemblance to some TNG episodes but that is something you get used to.
