There have been times in the past when Janeway herself has struggled with the Prime Directive.

Tom's decision to try and help was an interesting move - however - wouldn't the use of the Delta Flyer, provision of guidance etc already constitute a breach of the PD?

Janeway always has a knack of making people feel like naughty children I think, when she dresses them down.

Janeway is justified, but a complete tool in this episode. She would have done the same thing in a similar situation. In fact, any respect I had for her is completely gone.

The premise is somewhat interesting but way too rushed. It’s a very weak attempt at an environmental theme. Paris’ sudden passion for the ocean comes out of thin air and the use of writing a letter to his father as a way of exposition is very forced. Paris’ actions don’t seem justified.

It isn't a bad episode as such and the topic reflects well into our time. But I don't know why they went back to THAT Tom Paris. I guess they needed someone to go rogue it it can't always be Seven. And maybe the writers thought Tom became to docile.
Sadly we get another example of Janeway's inconsistency. There have been numerous occasions where a crew member did something against orders and never was one demoted or thrown into the brig. Not to mention she should have thrown herself in there a couple of times, too. So it points again to the writers trying to do make something happen with Tom.

Interesting cause and effect, B'elanna asked Tom what he was going to do about the situation, everything else flowed therefrom. Then again, the punishment lacks teeth,. demoted to ensign? Harry's been an ensign for years when he should have been promoted. Thirty days in the brig would be a nice break. I wish I could have thirty days in the brig vs a month of typical workdays :joy:

It has been 25 years, and we are still arguing about whether or not Climate Change is real :person_facepalming:

Well now I just want to watch Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and SeaQuest DSV.

Not a good episode. The ocean is a cool idea though. Feels like a leftover from an earlier season with that unruly Tom Paris again. I thought we were beyond this point. I really like to see more of the twins in b/w.

PS: Makeup and an altered nose can't conceal it's Willie Garden from SATC.
