This was an entertaining episode; it seems to me the powers of investigation available to the crew are not actually that amazing, beyond the computer which instantly shouts when someone lies yet has to be constantly asked if what was said is truth; odd!

Good going Kirk for transporting the 'murderer' into space and scattering atoms

"Gee, Jim, do you think Scotty's finally got over his hatred of women?
Scotty proceeds to murder three women.

Total silliness aside. this was quite a fun whodunit episode, and James Doohan was pretty great.

Everyone who thinks "Spock's Brain" is a stupid episode should watch this.

I had no recollection of this episode when it started. Which is odd because I've watched them each more times than I care to admit. It became clear very early why this was erased from my concious. It's rather silly from the beginning to the conclusion. The idea of Jack the Ripper being an alien lifeform wandering around the universe wasn't even awful. But Star Trek never did well with horror episodes. They were always more laughable than frightening and I doubt that's just because of the times there were made in. It was also very clear you killed all the women about 10 minutes afterwards as the guy was constantly trying to make Scotty a scapegoat.

The end were Kirk beams the guy into space was surprisingly brutal, though.

A very fun and well done episode. It has an interesting premise that takes time to reveal itself. The plot and story telling are a little disjointed as it shifts gears, but it isn't horrible.

I'm not entirely sure on the investigation using a suped-up polygraph. That doesn't exactly show truth, just that the person believes it is true enough for biological reactions not to register. Hardly "beyond a shadow of a doubt"... Also, the inconsistency of the interaction with the computer leaves plenty of doubt. Sometimes it needs to verify every statement, other times it can verify an entire conversation, and other times it pipes up of it's own accord. Not exactly what I would call trustworthy equipment...

I'm sorry did Spock really say that the reason this serial killer murders women is because women feel more fear than men, and are easier to scare! say what now!
