I love the visor! It's a genius piece of engineering. Aesthetically extremely pleasing. Before it was used for the purpose shown in this episode, namely as a protection against ugliness, it was one of the props used at 1990s rave parties.

I still can't comprehend that's the future Dr Polaski. Polaski is one of the TNG characters I tend to think not very highly of (Polaski has her moments though). But in this episode Muldaur is great.

Another remarkable observation: Scottie wears a skirt and a cape (or whatever this is) with a Scottish pattern. Wonderful!

The story ain't bad either. A mysterious ambassador being (the strange light/FX is excused). A mysterious telepathic woman. Jealous too. Blind as it later turns out. A tragic love. The telepath refusing to be loved like a 60s woman is supposed to be loved. Attempted murder. A crazy in love man accelerating the ship beyond warp nine and beyond the galactic barrier. A brilliant Spock. A spot of philosophy. What more can you ask for? Perhaps writers could have refrained from letting Kirk play Romeo in the rose garden....

The first product placement in Star Trek History (maybe in TV History ?). Also the second appearance from Diana Muldaur as a leading guest actor.

The story isn't bad but it didn't really grip me. And I fail to see the described ugliness in the ambassador's appearance. But that could be on purpose because beauty indeed is subject to taste.

"I see your a very complicated man."

What? His literal first thought to solve a problem was to shag her to distract her. He's been doing that throughout the show.

Is that what was in the case all this time? Medusans in noir and neo-noir films for years without knowing it.

It’s kinda like Cthulhu. Something unknown

Women! Too ruled by emotion to recognise what they need. Only a true Man like Kirk can force them to see the truth.
