Superman & Lois: Season 3

3x01 Closer

Ouch, that was just straight up boring. Nothing in this episode gave me any hype for what's to come. Recastings always suck and I didn't buy Michael Bishop as Jonathan in his first scenes, but it's just one episode. I do hope the show will get better in the coming weeks. A big part of the cast is still great and there is potential here.

The new Jonathan looks like they tried to cheaply CGI old Jonathans head onto the body of someone with a much smaller head.

That said he looks more like Clark and Jordan. and he acts the part well, So maybe it's for the best.

The villain(s) for this season seem intriguing, though I do fear that they're beginning to fall into the classic CW writing trap of making their lead couple want to have a baby, and then having a baby, and then the show becomes all about how they have a baby now rather than what it's actually meant to be about.

Not the best opening, but solid enough. I forgot about the Jonathan recasting until the new actor showed up on screen and was confused for a second, but I think so far he's off to a promising start and it doesn't mess with my ability to enjoy the show that much. He was still written and acted to feel like Jonathan, so I don't really care that it's a different actor. I stand by Tyler Hoechlin being a really great live action portrayal of Superman, especially the duality of being Superman and Clark Kent. For a season premiere this didn't necessarily grab my attention and draw me in, but I've invested enough time with this show to continue watching. This show has more or less been a decently well-executed live action superhero show that has that pure-TV feel, and this episode told me that's more or less what I can likely expect from the third season.

So Jonathan is different. How does Clark shave. Why is the potential pregnancy a suprise? Did Jordan nick the elephant or did he happen to have some ringgit on him? If I had xray vision. I would have xrayed Lois's uterus.

people really will throw the term 'woke ' at anything they don't like, huh?

Incredibly boring, both Lana and her kid are literally the worst. That haircut ranks up there on "Felicity" levels of disappointment.

Season 1 didn't conquer me and mid season 2 i was about to give up, but then, the Bizarro World episode came up, and it grabbed me. by the end of Season 2 i noticed they wanted to reboot/shift some stuff, so i decided to give Season 3 a chance. i must say that Johnathan recasting was for the best, this one fits more with the family and has a better resemblance as Jordan's brother. i like that Clark and Lois now share the same amount of time on screen (no, i didn't count it but it feels like that) then previously, as it seemed it was more focused on Lois. I'll be here for episode 2, hopefully it continues in the new direction without feeling its a complete different show.

Was that Madara Uchiha (Tobi) ?

That Jonathan recast was rough. I preferred the other one.

I really thought writers were going to make superman come out of closet as transgender gay super hero. Glad they didn’t go off the rails with their wokeness.

I cant believe how much they ruined this show. It started with 1.7m viewers and by the end of season 2 it only had 800k left with a 70% reduction in key demographic rankings.

At this rate it might get canceled mid season and will have under 200k viewers by the end of season 3 and a .03 key demo ratio at this rate... not sure what the point of investing all this money in this stuff if it causes literally NO ONE to watch it, not even the key demo they think they are appealing to.

It had so much promise but they had to go WoK3

Why did they replace old Jonathan with a new one?

And how is this even possible or necessary in 2024? Contracts and wise planning ruled this out for a long time I thought (last cast swap I saw was many many years (or even decades?) ago, only dubbed voices are much more frequent and also very annoying).

Edit: found the actual reason. Reasonable. Still wondering how a studio‘s contract‘s allow this, I thought they are strongly bind to their roles as long as a show runs.

Solid action scenes despite the Jonathan casting taking getting used to. Lame if this show is canceled but the stuttering and dopey Walker show is the only CW show to survive.

this had some good moments, was not expecting onomatopoeia to show up but looks intriguing!

A great episode -- it is really easy to feel strong emotion about all of those family and interpersonal situations.

A great episode with an elephant in the room, of course. But, I'm okay with that...I also had reservations/expectations about why, but as soon as I read the original actor left due to, "personal reasons," -- and, given the new actor may look a little bit different, but is able to make himself sound substantially similar -- it's not a deal breaker for me.... Maybe that's why they rolled it up with all that yummy goodness that is a couple in love who want to experience more love, and Samuel clearly experiencing regret and acting upon it!

There was that other elephant.... That villain straight up reminded me of Madara (Obito Uchiha after he stopped pretending to be Tobi) in the Akatsuki gang from Naruto Shippuden!

I had no idea about any recast nor do I know why. When I first started watching this episode I immediately wondered who the hell is that? Then started to find out while watching and also looked at the cast here in Trakt.tv. I hope that I can get used to the new Jonathan because right now he is out of place for me since I am used to the previous actor.

I had felt the same years ago when I watched:

Spartacus: Blood And Sand (2010)
https://www.starz.com/us/en/series/spartacus/5972
(https://trakt.tv/shows/spartacus)
Spartacus: God's Of The Arena
Spartacus: Vengeance
Spartacus: War Of The Damned

and the lead character was suddenly different, but I had found out why and continued watching and got completely comfortable with the new casting and thoroughly enjoyed the series! Which, by the way, if you can handle things to certain extremes regarding fowl language, violence, and nudity as well as that type of show, then it is a recommended watch for sure!
