The Office

Season 2

I'm very happy about not having given up on "The Office" after some mediocre episodes in season 1, because this second season is not only better overall but there is also not a single bad episodes. Additionally, I get to like the characters / actors more and more: while I normally do not like Steve Carell because I do not find him funny but quite a douche-bag, he is the perfect cast for Michael, a not-funny-at-all douche-bag boss!

Ooo, boy. I knew I was going to ship Jim & Pam, obviously, because the entire internet ships Jim & Pam. But I had no idea how much I would love them. It's a lot like Parks & Rec and Brooklyn Nine Nine, in that the couples genuinely like each other and get on well. But the difference is that Leslie & Ben and Jake & Amy both had slightly antagonistic relationships at the start. Here, we start with Jim and Pam already being best friends who genuinely have fun together and enjoy each other's company. It is just so joyful to watch.

Average episode rating for this season: 6.95454545…

Yeah, I'll believe that number. There's some stuff I like, but also a lot of chaff to sit through.

The Office delivers reams of laughter as it rolls into its second season (with a full 22-episodes). The crazy shenanigans at Dunder-Mifflin kick-off with a special award ceremony (the Dundies), and continue on with an improv office Olympics, a booze cruise, and even a casino night charity fundraiser. There are also a couple of holiday episodes, including “Halloween,” “Christmas Party,” and “Valentine’s Day.” Additionally, the characters get fleshed out a little more; exploring the Jim/Pam relationship, the Jim/Dwight rivalry, and Michael’s complicated relationship with his boss (Jane). The comedy is incredibly funny, mixing dry, sardonic humor with classic slapstick. And the show continues to address real office issues, such as sexual harassment, employee performances reviews, and drug testing. Hilariously entertaining, The Office comes into its own in Season 2, distinguishing itself from its British sister show.
