The Simpsons: Season 31

31x13 Frinkcoin

[5.8/10 on a post-classic Simpsons scale] Well this was an amorphous jumble of an episode. Is it about Frink’s sense of emptiness? Is it about Burns trying to remain the richest man in town? Is it about Smithers calling his boss by his first name? I’m not averse to having A-plots and B-plots, but this episode doesn't really have that. It just has vague, different ideas that sluice into one another.

There’s also few, if any, laughs in this episode. The show can’t really wring anything amusing from cryptocurrency, and the parody songs in this one are meh at best. The celebrity assistant shtick is tired. And the show can’t find much good Burns material either. (I did enjoy his misunderstanding of terms like “cryptocurrency” and “block chain”.)

Everything just happens too fast and without reason. There’s a decent idea here with Frink solving the equation to neutralize cryptocurrency to put himself back at zero given his fortune’s inability to make him happy, but the show has no idea how to dramatize that story or make it funny.

Overall, a big jumbled waste of time.
