Re-watching the episode ‘No Time Like the Past’ written by Rod Serling tonight, I was reminded of the classic Star Trek episode ‘City on the Edge of Forever’. Both explored bittersweet romances in the past. Outside of that similarity, they both dip into similar themes from opposite angles. In The Twilight Zone story, it was deemed that the past is destined to play out as it did and will continue to do so despite trying to change it. While on Trek, the past could very easily be changed and thus altering the future. Twilight Zone paints the future/present rather pessimistically, while Trek takes a decidedly optimistic view of it. Both stories end similarly with the central character being frustrated of the outcome of their experience.

They guy had a great aim at Hitler, then the bullet misfired? What are the odds? I assume trying to change the past, something will always try to stop you.
