What a terrible way to end the season.
Tanya dying? Bert's Achilles cock? Albie and Portia keeping in touch? Valentina folding? Ethan and Harper resolving everything with sex and being okay with whatever, and Cameron getting away with everything he did?
To be honest, Daphne saved this show from getting a 0.
I am so sad she died . I hope she comes back somehow.
That ending was wild. What a season and what a finale! Fantastic pacing and suspense.
• This season the local characters are left in a better place than where they started, unlike the first season. Lucia is set for a bit. Mia got her dream job. Both getting what they wanted and being carefree and menfree. A win for the working girls! I do appreciate the stylistic choice of dresses for this ending scene, especially Lucia. The difference from her work outfits was super stark to me. It’s so rare to see a sex worker actually not be the victims or villains or just sad.
• Albie is such an aggravating character. So dumb but so righteous in his mind. Lucia played him like a fiddle. Turns out he is just like his dad and grandfather but with a different twist. He sold out his mom for a woman he met three days ago. His character arc was subtle but really well done. I liked when his dad asked him, "How are you going to get through life being such a huge mark?", he has to know he’ll be providing for Albie for his whole life. That shot of all three DiGrassos watching after the same girl in the same way in the airport was so good and perfectly sums up their characters. Albie and Portia deserve each other.
• Portia has been out in public all day and wait until she was in a private enclosed space with Jack to start asking why he is having sex with his uncle?! Annoying and dumb the whole way through. Her and Albie deserve each other, a match made in straight heaven. It was on brand for her to ask for Albie’s phone number right after he told her about the drowning and dead bodies on the yacht.
• Great acting from the guy who played Jack because he was legitimately normal at first and then got worse and worse as the story progressed. He was so creepy and the end.
• I think Tanya dying was too obvious and I thought for sure they would give us a twist but nope. Kind of disappointing. I was wondering how she survived so long considering how dumb she is, so of course she goes out the stupidest way possible, very fitting for her character. She asked the dying man if her husband was cheating on her, Tanya was never the brightest bulb in the box. I feel like the line "these gays are trying to murder me" was written knowing full well it would become a viral meme used in group chats and tweets for years. I just wish we knew more about the Greg situation - who was Greg talking to on the phone in that other episode when he says “yeah she has no clue as usual” or something like that, and then “I love you too”. His storyline still has a lot of question marks and I wonder if he will be on season 3, vacationing with his newfound wealth. I hope Portia speak up about what she knows when she gets back to the states, I don't want Greg to win like this.
• I don't really buy the Ethan/Harper happy ending - they're just resigned to be Daphne/Cameron and happy about it. I am so confused by their storylines like the lesson is, have sex with someone else to save a marriage? Huh? Ethan and Harper have been fighting and bitching all these vacation days, then they get laid and their relationship magically fixes itself? So lack of sex was literally their only issue? Why did Ethan struggle with having sex with Harper in the first place? Ethan sucked the entire show honestly. He continuing to gaslight Harper that he “didn’t do anything” and he’s “always been honest” is so wild. He’s a terrible partner, he cheated first and then protected his friend (who is not a friend actually) rather than tell his wife the truth, then he had the audacity to demand the truth from Harper? He and Daphne definitely had sex, I feel like that's the only reason why Ethan was finally able to get over his jealousy. I really liked the scene where Ethan tells Daphne that he thinks that Cameron and Harper hooked up. Meghann Fahy is amazing, her facial expressions in that scene were incredible.
• My only problem is that the finale was predictable, no element of surprise. I had hoped for another plot twist that we wouldn’t see coming. Overall, the season was good. Some might say the ending was rushed because it’s up to out imagination to determine how everything really is resolved but that was the case with season 1 ending as well. The ending was typical in terms of Mike White’s writing. The White Lotus is not a show where things get resolved in a tidy way. Each character’s narrative arc is more about how they are changed by their week on vacation. The stories can’t really wrap up in a super conventional way (besides the death, of course) because the idea that life goes on beyond the White Lotus is so central to the show.
Oh. You know, I just wish I could grab you all and fold you up in my trunk and take you with me. Aww. I do. Well, we could probably all fit.
7 for this episode. 5 for this season.
Unlike the majority of people, I did not find much to like about this season. The best thing about this season is the scenery.
All I could think about was that IF ONLY SOMEONE SEND ME 50000 EUROS TOO.
Then the last 10 minutes came, and I'd never ever imagine things would escalate that much. I'm sorry for Tanya, but as Portia said before, killing her may be considered euthanasia and kind at one point. I still wish she didn't die though.
Dissertations should be written on Cameron and Daphne if they were based on real people. They may be the most dysfunctional delusional toxic couple.
I'm glad sex workers got their happy ending. Lucia was worried about all whores being punished in the end, and it was time for a change.
There wasn't 100% definite answers for loose ends though. It doesn't bother me very much, but like... What really happened between Harper and Cameron, was it just a kiss or more? Did Daphne invited Ethan to Isola Bella so that they can get revenge and have sex? Were gays and Greg really planning to kill Tanya? If so, is Greg the most lucky person in this story? Was Quentin really Jack's uncle? And the most precious and important one among all... IS GREG HAVING AN AFFAIR??
Figure that the first episode this season I find great is the finale lol. The mixture of rising tension and dark humor is so well calibrated here, reaching the climax for me in Tanya's conversation with the boat driver. "These gays, they're trying to murder me."
what a finish for a great show......
This ending was so predictable at half of the season that I was rooting for the surprise factor. Bad show.
Why the hell is this show so hyped. It's amazing how much plot it attempts to have and yet somehow still manages to be shallow and empty. I'm going to stop listening to the masses who jump on the viral trends without having any actual taste in good tv
In a way, everyone got what they deserved. Ethan learned how to ignore things to have a good life. Idt Cam and Harper did anything, but it still lingered in his head and it was going to ruin the relationship regardless. I'm surprised Cam was so jolly after Ethan beat him up, I guess he doesn't care that much about it after all. Daphne is just a sad character, she comes off as airheaded but it's really because she's trying to find a positive way through all the negativity Cam brings into the relationship thru his non-consensual infidelity. Albie learns his lesson about being naive even though he's a non-toxic male (although, he still puts himself out as a savior for Lucia). And idk about his dad and grandfather, I don't see good things in their future. I don't think anyone left this story better than they came, except for Lucia and Mia, good for them.
Jack goes to take a shit but conveniently leaves his phone on the table for Portia to use. Now, no person that age ever goes to the bathroom without their phone. Not a chance.
Explanation is given by Jack himself; he’s not very smart. He had Portia’s phone in his pocket (where else could it even have been that whole time) and forgot it wasn’t his when he went to the bathroom.
Further evidence of Jack’s stupidity: he doesn’t use a case on his phone, he doesn’t have a passcode/Face ID turned on on his phone (or it’s something obvious or Portia saw him put it in), he didn’t realize once he got to the bathroom that Portia would likely try to use his phone. Plus Jack is often used as a name for simpleton characters.
What a great finale. Not so much on the who died portion as I knew before we got here who was dying. I wish we had more information about Greg though. I expect him back season 3 because I really hate that he walks away a winner. I didn’t like him last season and definitely don’t like him now.
I said how the characters in this show is meant to be hated and I stand by that. Ethan has been an annoying little shit since the beginning when all he had to do was tell the truth like he kept saying he does. It is ridiculous they come away from this as a couple that mimics the Daphne and Cameron. They’re horrible people and terrible partners.
Portia and Alvie… so consumed with their own BS. How he could not see he was being played idk. Why she got into a car with a man she suspected of being part of a murder attempt on her boss is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. They’ll be like Ethan and Harper in a couple years.
Lucia, eh. A grifter is a grifter and I feel bad that she took advantage of that poor boy but he should have seen it coming when she asked for money to fix her problems. A flight to america would have been a much cheaper and probably safer way to run away from them.
I’m happy for Valentina. I saw her episode 1 and said she needs to get laid. I was right. Didn’t see her being a lesbian tough, but that’s even more a win to me. I’m glad she’s letting loose a bit. And I’m glad mia is getting her dream.
If last season's ending had left a sour taste in my mouth, this one made amends. Everything was GLORIOUS!
That being said, you'll never find happiness until you rectify this Todd (or Albie, I guess), what did the rest of the song said??? "The horny horny" what?! [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llR33b0Nmm4]
Do whatever you need not to feel a victim lol
Great season! I liked the finale of season 1 a bit more but this was still a very solid conclusion to fantastic second season.
Kind of disappointed we never saw a confrontation between C&D about their past aggressions. Or some kind of character development outside of their scenes with E&H. But then again, this is why their relationship works I guess. They ignore their issues and carry on loving each other and spending ridiculous amount of money left and right. LOL Honestly, I found their dynamic the most compelling and thought provoking. (Maybe followed by the 3 generations of the Di Grassos.) While everything else is fairly entertaining, it's nothing we haven't already seen before. Anyways, it's like C&D found themselves stuck in this vicious cycle of mind games and trust issues and for all we know most of it could've been based on nothing. I mean it takes D but 2 seconds after E tells her something MIGHT have happened between C&H for her to proceed with her revenge plan so she wouldn't feel like a victim. What I'm saying is, YES, Cameron is a liar and a cheat, but Daphne should at least make sure some of these accusations are true before getting back at him, say, by bringing a CHILD into this world OUT OF SPITE. Obviously this child is loved and cared for, but what if that wasn't the case? IT IS WILD, I TELL YOU! They are CRAZY and I low key want a whole show on them.
