Tokyo Ghoul is one hell of a disappointing adaptation and thus fits in perfectly in the season... Who ever did the planning on this failed miserably leaving the anime rather flawed.
Without having read the manga we apparently get like 70+ chapters in just 12 episodes but it isn't just that - the arcs are not in order. As a result the characterizations are suffering and I can't say the story had a good flow. They pretty much picked out the action and went with that. Only in the last episode we got to see some of the inner workings but it's not like that cleared anything up. Just like the manga this week the anime ended on a cliffhanger although that is still better than trying to do an original end. The story seems to have some interesting ideas but with the manga now having no clear outcome either you can't even say "read the manga"...
Production wise the show was alright although suffering from ever present censorship of the gore or even leaving out certain mutilations.
With the uncertain future of TG's story I would not recommend checking it out.
It's pretty sad how they ruined it like this way, a lot of unexplained thing's and like they just wanted to end it, This could be one of most awesome animes ever but the studio really make it really bad at last 2 parts, that's really sad, Such a lost masterpiece
but anyway i recommend anyone to watch first 2 parts, was really great, maybe you can read the original manga after finishing those 2
and once again
shame on the studio
1st season, cool i like it.
2nd season, ok alright, not that bad...
3rd season, What the f is happening, what am i watching right now? what happened??!
4th season, oh, ok i see.. well, that's pretty boring to be honest.. (also a lot of the supposedly diseased characters came back to life for some reason that was never explained.. omg i have so many questions at this point, but don't really care about the answers )
Very disappointed :/
Never read the manga for this, but WOW!! Cannot believe the stuff that goes down in season one. Shocking moments, heart wrenching scenes, and so much ghoulish awesomeness. In love with this anime atm. Why have I not heard of this one before? Glad I happened to come across it.
I should've stop watching after season 2.
I don't read manga much. So, most of my anime reviews are purely based on the animated adaptation.
Being one of the more popular anime in recent years. It uses this popularity to embrace the fact that, while possibly not adapting from the manga completely. The show manages to find its footing and has a level head through the first season.
So for me, the first season is the best and is actually really good. Delving into the concept of change and perspective. It's very interesting how the show develops the audience's understanding of this world. How evil and good aren't defined by what you are, but how you are treated. Obviously being a metaphor for racism in the most extreme way. But it works well. Driving the point home with this great ensemble of characters that you grow to love and hate. Really having a sense of character focus rather than an overall world perspective, keeps it grounded and alive while watching. While it does suffer from the normal anime tropes sometimes, it still feels original in a way and deserves the praise it gets.
The second season I know deviates from the manga almost entirely. But going from season 1 to this isn't jarring at all if you just watch the anime. It fits and feels the same. However, it loses that grounded feeling once it begins to explore the overpowered aspects of ghouls. It lost me a bit, but still found it's home with still focussing on these characters we've been introduced to before. Serving as a gateway to a final arc to the story, it holds the series up even through all its shortcomings. As I found the ending satisfying in of itself.
The third and I presume to be final season started off interesting and likeable. But when Part 2 came around, I basically lost interest and so did the show it seems. Ditching characters that were just there for filler and having no real impact on the protagonist during Part 1. As it reintroduces the other cast we knew and loved. They seemed sour and undeeded in the end. As Ken's transformations I felt were very rushed and held no weight. Making him feel more like a sideshow rather than a leading character in a show. A true disconnect was not felt at Part 1, but actually at Part 2 surprisingly. Ken hasn't seemed to learn from his mistakes, even though that's what the overlining arc was? It just didn't make sense at all and felt so uninspired. A true let down for the series. But, it did have its ups. The animation, while not as stylised and fluid as season 1, still looked damn good. This season went on for too long and tried to build up something that never came to be. It rushes into things that were never seeded. As a result, it has an unsatisfactory viewing experience. Not worth the 3-year wait.
Season 1 Tokyo Ghoul - 8/10
Season 2 Tokyo Ghoul √A - 6/10
Season 3 Tokyo Ghoul:re Part 1 5/10
Season 4 Tokyo Ghoul:re Part 2 - 4/10
Overall - 6/10
Well, the third season is very boring compared to the 1 and 2.
原作漫画超赞的,动画制作精良,应该不会让人失望
The first two seasons of this show are not too bad, and I could recommend them, with some great emotion and energy in the first season especially. However, it is horribly paced and lacks a team that understands proper adaptation scripting. The third season is very generic on top of having the most extreme cases of this garbage, and I had to stop watching then because I would just rather read the manga to get a better experience and understanding of the story. It doesn't look too bad, though it progressively looks worse and worse as the series goes on. It also comes off as pretentious with its openers following the excellent one in Season 1, which is a weird thing since the creators must have known how much of the plot they had cut out in order to shove these seasons out quickly. Such a shame, but won't be revisiting for that reason.
(+) Strong first season and solid second season
(+) Likeable characters (at least for the first half of the show)
(=) Some seasons adapt main parts of series, but still cuts out far too much to be remotely understood at times
(=) Weird pacing that feels rushed and lacking in detail, likely due to lazy manga adaptation
(=) Weirdly censored, so some elements of show lack the brutality and shock that the manga contains
(-) Weak third season that kills momentum
Final Verdict: 6.79/10 (Good)
need to get english dub
First 2 seasons amazing but :Re really let us all down
im only just finished season one but oml this is gory-
(idk how the live action is working out or if its any good) would reccomend anyway..
I liked first and second seasons, you can feel main characters (anteiku's group). Conversely, the third one is boring and confusing (especially the second part), just fighting all the time and too many characters
last season read from manga cause there is like 10eps from the manga they didnt make
Keep hoping that the show will get better, but so far it seems to be more confusing and annoying more and more with every episode .... wish it stayed like season 1........ its frustrating
I wonder how much they are going to change the season 3 from the manga, Ireally hope they are similar cause the manga is really good!
Season 2 felt weaker than season 1 but it wasn't bad. I don't really like how it ended in season 2 but hopefully they'll come back with with a new season to tie things up.
The Best Anime Ever... Love The Ghouls...
season 2 was so disappointing
Are you even able to watch anime on this??
I know the production and the loyalty of this anime to the manga is much to wish for... From the beginning the production team stated that Tokyo Ghoul was going to take an alternative route to that of the anime. That in itself is thrilling but just not the way they executed it... We hoped for a better more slow paced plot but yet got the rushed story, in overall the anime is good on itself and root A was not that bad. The different routes as well as the outcomes were interesting. I wouldn't be so harsh as to say it was a really bad anime but just not what we hoped and expected. I still recommend this anime but to all those manga readers, I recommend the manga even more
so we all know why Hide died right
1. hes not a Dove nor is he a Ghoul (which makes him expendable)
2. hes had little to no lines in season 2 just barely enough to remind us that he still exists
3. someone has to die after all of that
now if you excuse me im bleeding to death I have to make some coffee and not seek any medical attention.
Can't believe this ended this way.
well guys, i haven't read the manga. actually i'm still new to watching anime. so i won't mind if any of you ignore this comment, but i for one loved this show & couldn't wait to start watching the 2nd season too. i liked the transition as the show turns dark & also loved all the action scenes.

So... the show got it's second season. Was it worth it? Totally not. It turned to utter trash (from an already messy adaptation).
S2 further diverts from the actual story it adapts (not that I've read it nor do I want to) but it's all with the supposed consent and input of the author - which is cool.. if it made any sense. They throw in so many characters we're supposed to give a shit only to involve them in things we know jack about. The show does in no way stand on it's own feet. Heck, the MC by this point is even harder to grasp. How great is it to have edgy fights with boring choreography and constant spasm of god awful animation! I'm floored how some people seriously liked the season. The only slightly redeeming thing was the anticlimactic last episode but it's by no means good.
Downgraded my overall rating from a "5" to a "4" (S2 is a 2/10).
