Toy Story 4

Visually stunning with a star-studded cast that doesn't disappoint, but I wasn't blown away in any way. It just can't stand up to the original trilogy. It's unoriginal and was sometimes oddly written. The original heart and soul gang of toys (including Buzz) was simply left out of the plot. The main new character introduced was very bizarre and left me puzzled. And the focus was directed a bit too much on Beau and her three creepy sheep. I adore this franchise and it wasn't bad by any stretch of the mind, but I was bored and underwhelmed at times.

Spirited Away

I don't, for the life of me, understand the praise. It was just bizarre, convoluted, and inappropriate for the rating. A slow, oscillating storylibe that just couldn't be followed I any fashion. A glute of discusting, violent creatures abound. And the main character is utterly unlikable. Some nicely animated scenes kept me barely hanging on. Don't waste your time.

The Boss Baby

It's a kids movie based on the cute book. I read the book to my daughter and then watchedthe movie as a family. She was engaged, we lol 'd, everybody wins. The story was choppy near the end, but the jokes are funny, especially if you're a parent. And I personally liked Alec Baldwin in it. His typecast was spot on as a pretentious, belligerent boss baby. Recommend the book and then movie for young families.

Mad Max: Fury Road

Oh man, people are deluded if they think this is a great film. Excellent cinematography and action sequences, but it stops right there. No narrative, no acting, no dialogue, and a pretentious soundtrack. I was so disappointed. I had no clue what was going on at any given time, other than the awsome explosions and rad costume design.

The Shawshank Redemption

Absolutely masterful adaptation of Stephen King's novella. I've been in love with its use of symbolism and irony since I first watched it. The themes of Christ, redemption, friendship, hope, freedom, and the id are spellbinding and will move you from start to finish. The human condition is revealed in grotesque, magnificent, and unexpected ways that leave you inspired and reflective. No scene is misplaced or superfluous. No character is left underdeveloped. Excellent performances from Robbins and Freeman. How it didn't get 100% is beyond me. "get busy living, or get busy dying." Watch this movie and get living.

Spirited Away

Slow, convoluted, and hard to follow. Disgusting creatures become the central thing. Each one becomes more repulsive and violent than the last. And the main character is unlikable. I don't understand all the praise.
