"Star Wars: A New Hope" is probably the single most fan-obsessed movie ever. It has no equal as far as being a part of our culture. I'm not a Star Wars nut but I am a fan. I just rewatched the theatrical version which I hadn't seen in probably 15 years. The thing that jumped out at me the most is the performance of Harrison Ford. His Han Solo has got to be one of the coolest characters in a movie ever. Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing really stood out to me this time as well. It's funny how the special effects of the original theatrical version are showing their age. They are a little rough in spots and maybe even a little crude at times but I love the practical effects. The pace of this movie is perfect and the simple relationships that the characters build along with the sometimes corny dialogue really do nothing but make the film more special. Even some 30 years from it original release it is a remarkably lovable film.
A technical marvel and a great plot for its time. But, in the 21st century, it would be inaccurate to rate it any higher than 7.5/10
People rating it 10/10, the force is too strong with those!
The movie that propably had the most impact on my life.
I was little over 10 at the time I saw it first. My dad brought it home on VHS. From the first second my eyes were glued to the screen. Immediately after it was over I rewound the tape and watched it again which up to today, close to 35 later, I haven´t done with any other movie. I recorded it on audio tape so I could listen to it, even wrote down the whole thing on paper (that was well before the internet, folks). We re-ennacted the scenes, I had memorized every line. I cannot recall how many times I`ve seen it since then.
I would give it 11 if possible.
This came out in 1977, of course the spaceships and the special effects look so bad. I saw it for the first time yesterday and I liked it.
There aren't many films that the term "iconic" feels insufficient as a description, but Is there any point in reviewing this ? Has anybody over 10 still not seen it ? The only part of the series that can really be watched as a standalone film, even with the controversy over changes, it is difficult to find fault. Following two secondary characters for the first part of the film is a masterstroke and a lot of humour between C3PO and R2D2 as they begin their journey helps to immerse the audience in the world, which is far less grand and more lived-in than that introduced in the prequels and ultimately more real to the audience despite the science fiction aspects. Luke's desire to strike out on his own makes him instantly relatable, and once Ford appears, the film picks up a relentless pace. It is the banter and interplay between the three primary characters that also helps to set this film and its sequels apart from the prequel trilogy. The conviction of the actors in their roles together with the pace help to gloss over dialogue which can be just as problematic as the prequel trilogy. And then there is the score - Williams has written many iconic pieces, but the original score for Star Wars still stands as one of the greatest ever written - is it any wonder that many of the themes and motifs continued to be used in the other films ?
Luke's aunt and uncle are murdered and burned and he doesn't even flinch. Leia's entire planet (HER WHOLE WORLD) is destroyed and she doesn't display a single touch of sadness. Obi-Wan dies and no one really cares about it. Either the acting in this film is utterly terrible or everyone's a sociopath
fan of the franchise but i kinda dislike this one. would probably have been better as a stand alone movie but the prequels and sequels kinda make it look bad (story doesn't add up). also, why didn't they show any emotion back then? (luke when his aunt and uncle were evaporated, leia when alderaan exploded). animation for the time pretty good and in the remastered versions even nowadays watchable. ..but why the hell would obi wan just teleport away and leave his robe? is he naked now? did he transform into a higher being just like that? is luke remembering or can obi wan speak to him as a ghost now? why did the deathstar fly around the planet instead of just evaporating it together with the rebel base and why is there not a single star destroyer to guard the nearly defenseless, hugely expensive death star? it gets weirder the more you think about the movie
I don't know what the fuss is all about. I fell asleep during each movie. Too much dribble not enough action.

A quality start to the franchise.
I say start, I guess that depends on the (seemingly) controversial way of watching these films - I've decided on release order, so it's the beginning for me anyway. I've heard a lot about 'Star Wars' so I am expecting big things, this didn't disappoint whatsoever.
I unquestionably enjoyed this! If I didn't know this was released in 1977 I would never have guessed, it still holds up astonishingly well. The special effects are spectacular for the vast, vast majority; even the stuff that perhaps hasn't aged as supremely still looks superb.
The cast are a joy. I actually wouldn't say any performance sensationally stood out, but all the actors and all the characters are so much fun to watch together. Mark Hamill is impressive as Luke, Harrison Ford is entertaining as Han and Carrie Fisher is super as Leia. Credit also to James Earl Jones and Alec Guinness, among others. Despite not watching until now, I literally already knew all of the character names - shows how timeless these are.
The plot makes for top notch viewing, I found the pacing to be particularly spot on. And how about that score? Stupendous! I really have no negatives for this, I'm sure it isn't perfect but I had a very fun time with it.
First time I saw it I fell asleep. Of course I was 4 and in the back seat of a Ford Granada that my dad had modded the backseat foot area with a board so it me and brother could pass out and ma and pa could enjoy the Drive In movie lol
I managed to get ahold of an HD rip from the original Laserdisc set over the weekend, and immediately commenced with my first non-Special Edition viewing in about fifteen years. In a roundabout way, Lucas's tweaks and reworkings in later versions of this film actually make the original effects more impressive as they stand. Of course, in the twenty-first century anyone with a large enough processor can film their own spaceship dogfight, but for ILM to have produced something during the mid '70s that still seems competitive today remains a truly gargantuan achievement. Even with the veneer of post-production and extra CGI stripped away, it's a miraculously good looking picture, intricately detailed and fully functional - a thorough realization of Lucas's vivid imagination. In many instances, the old school special effects that were replaced in later revisions and the subsequent prequels actually work to make the film more lifelike and tangible. Take Vader and company's infamous debut appearance, for instance: marching through soot and smoke after blasting a hole in Leia's overtaken cruiser, the boarding party seems more imposing and threatening with a thick haze still obscuring much of the screen. That would've been digitally omitted or altered in a modern LucasFilm release, to ill effect.
Naturally, though, there's more to this film than just effects work. While its story is fairly straightforward and restrained, especially compared to the increasingly tangled, coincidence-laden plots of its follow-ups, there's a certain infectious, youthful energy occupying the driver's seat. Despite its laughably scripted dialog and rough, amateurish editing, a giddy sense of adventure and delight makes the whole thing somehow, perhaps miraculously, come together and work as a brilliant, cohesive, thoroughly befuddling ball of wax.
As further sequels were anything but a given at its release, it's also the most self-inclusive film of the Star Wars sextology, with a clear progression for each member of its cast and a sound, rewarding genesis, apex and conclusion. This shouldn't still be so good, but it is, and I'll be watching it with my kids for decades to come.
A sci-fi classic which influenced the way movies are made and invites us to travel in space. Everything about this movie is iconic. It's a great intoduction to this universe and visually the movie is impressive for its time.
As a first-time Star Wars watcher seeing this in preparation for Episode 7, I was rather disappointed. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't nearly as good as I expected it to be given all the hype. Other Sci-Fi/Fantasy flicks from the 60s, 70s and 80s hold up a lot better. This particular film just felt overly goofy to me. It was hard to take seriously at times. Add that to the slow pace and some pretty bad acting and you got a cult classic that I just can't get into. The score is pretty great and so are the miniature effects, so this goes down as another film I appreciate for its technical aspects but don't enjoy watching. Much like the Lord of the Rings films.

obi-wan calling vader “Darth” like it’s his first name is the most baller fucking gauntlet slam of all time get on his level you cronies
"Wonderful girl. Either I'm going to kill her or I'm beginning to like her."
The first Star Wars film is just all out fun. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford just seem to have so much fun together! I just can't imagine watching this at the cinema in the 1977. A whole world opening up. Light Sabers, Jedi, Darth Vader, the Force, C3P0, R2D2, Peter Cushing, the Death Star, the big space battle at the end, Stormtroopers, that epic soundtrack, a planet being blown up, all epic stuff.
Although I still prefer the darker Empire Strikes Back, a New Hope is a great, great entry into the world of Star Wars and still legendary. A fun, fun rewatch and one that will never bore me.
Star Wars, originally released in 1977, was directed by a visionary filmmaker and starred a cast of actors who didn't realize the impact their film would have on pop culture. The movie follows the journey of a farm boy, Luke Skywalker, as he fights against the evil Empire and their planet-destroying weapon, the Death Star. The film boasts a cast of memorable characters, including Darth Vader, Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, and is known for its iconic quotes and special effects. The story, which follows the hero's journey, is simple but effective and filled with self-awareness and humor. The acting and pacing may have some flaws, but the score, composed by John Williams, is unforgettable. Though there are plot holes in later films, the original Star Wars, now known as A New Hope, is a thrilling adventure with likable heroes and terrifying villains that set the standard for blockbuster movies. And let's not forget, Han shot first.
__________________________-
Extremely overrated, but I get why to an extent: this practically invented the modern blockbuster alongside Jaws. The visuals still hold up for the most part, and it probably has the most iconic soundtrack of all time. The worldbuilding is great (even if some things, like Chewbacca’s costume, look a little too goofy now) and all of the main characters are very well written. That being said: the dialogue and acting are pretty atrocious and already show a lot of the weaknesses that would go on to define George Lucas as a creative. It’d be a big improvement if this embraced its cheesy serial roots a lot more besides using the occasional homage through scene transitions, because I find it all a little hard to take as seriously as the movie wants me to. It’s also pretty formulaic with its incorporation of Campbell’s hero journey, there are very few interesting surprises in it as a result. Many of the ideas from this have been taken by other directors and they’ve improved upon them, but this is still an achievement that deserves some respect.
6.5/10
Star Wars A New Hope excels not as the beginning of a multimedia all-consuming franchise, though it functions just fine as one. It's true strength lies in how it stands alone. Some would consider this a flaw- Obi-Wan doesn't acknowledge knowing RD-D2, Vader isn't nearly as well drawn a villain, and, of course, Luke and Leia have a fledgling infatuation that would quickly become very awkward and abandoned. A New Hope exposes that this trilogy wasn't completely planned yet, let alone the franchise; there was a strong chance this could've been the only one. So it is fortunate that of all the Star wars movies, this one is the one that works all by itself.
It is the Hero's Journey distilled into one film. No fluff. Each scene is dedicated to ensuring the main characters are the purest form of their archetypes. Luke is perfectly portrayed by Hamill- the wanderlust for the future at war with the loyalty to his inert present. Luke cannot choose to leave his family, the world he knows- so the galaxy makes the choice for him, ensuring he can become the hero he must. Han is a brusque but charming scoundrel, hiding a heart of gold. And Leia is the poised princess with a fiery streak, the soul of the Rebellion. This trilogy has the best chemistry of any main trio, and it starts here. Hamill, Ford, and Fisher elevate these characters' and their relationships' through their real life bond and their ownership of them; they famously went to war with Lucas over the stilted nature of their lines and got to alter them and own their performances in a way future performers never could.
Bringing up the rear are R-D2 and C-3PO, much more entertaining together than I remember. They're amusing, and at points even heartwarming, but never distracting. Tarkin is played with delightful awareness by Cushing, knowing exactly what kid of film he's in. And Guinness provides the blueprint for the wise master that others would imitate for decades to come. Again, the only weakness here is Vader- for possibly the most iconic and central character of the franchise, he's nothing special outside of his appearance and voice. Cushing portrays unabashed and unashamed evil better than Vader does- it is not until Empire Strikes Back introduces more dimensions to Vader that he becomes more. Here, he feels redundant.
That aside, the practical effects hold up very well and the whole thing oozes old school charm. A New Hope knows what it's supposed to be. And that is not just 'A New Hope'. It's supposed to be Star Wars, in case it turned out this would be all the Star Wars there would ever be. From start to finish, everything is in service of the goal of old school heroic adventure, of a Buck Rogers serial. And that is exactly what it achieves. It's not the deepest film, but its simplicity is its strength. It is a foundation not only for future Star Wars films but countless other films, from sci-fi and beyond. Countless pieces of media would emulate this film and evolve from it. Set aside Disney, set aside the franchise, and meet this film alone, and you'll be surprised at how cozy it feels.
I liked better the first part of the movie than the second half. It began as a good story with good character construction but then many absurd things happened and I lost insterest.
Visual effects are great though, I think by the time it was released they looked pretty good, although not all of them aged well.
was truly captivating when it came out too bad they had to make so many looses afterwards
If you wish to enter the Star Wars universe I highly recommend watching the Star Wars Despecialized Edition instead of the versions you find online. It is a hell of an improvement. No bad CGI nor filters. Just pure theatrical madness (or closed to it). That's the way to do it.
Watched this again today... for like the 5th time or something. Never will I be tired of it.
It was awesome.
I know it's too late to watch it , even after 41 yrs this movie feels great.
It took me 3yrs to get myself to watch it.
Now i understand why star wars is so famous.
First 30 minutes are boring but after that you are gonna love it.Many people won't like it because it's too old but if you watch it imaging you are still in 1977 you will love it after all it was the first STAR WARS.
This movie is arguably the most influential film in the last 50 years. I watched it for the first time several days ago and the influence that it had can be seen all over the place in film today. It no doubt was a masterpiece for its time.
However, I do not think it is perfect. The score is awesome, the space ships still look alright to this day but the shooting does look very unrealistic and hasn't really held up, but it was made in 1977 so they did the best with what they had.
My problems though lie with the story and the use characters. Darth Vader is the most iconic villian ever and yet a lot of tension in this movie and the next is created by strange creatures which have no relationship to him that drag the characters underwater again and again which to me appears a bit lazy especially with a villain like that. Films like Dark Knight with a truly great villain actually utilise him as the villain and his character for the plot rather then use animals to keep attacking Batman.
Another issue I believe lies in the acting and crafting of the scenes. When Luke's uncle dies we get very little emotion. Luke has always been with them and yet they get a short stair at their burnt bodies and then they really mentioned properly again. It could have done with more emotional.
Despite these issues the movie is overall very enjoyable and sets up for an amazing universe and it is great other then for these flaws
Best sci-fi movie of all time? NO, absolutly NO.
The one that started it all. This movie has one of the biggest impacts on the movie industry ever, iconic is an understatement. Is it the best one, probably not but it is right there with The Empire Strikes Back.
RIP Carrie Fisher. You were a lot of people's first crush.
One of the greatest movies of all time
Star Wars is the quintessential space opera, and a fun action film. This epic adventure follows Luke Skywalker as he joins former general Obi-Wan Kenobi on a mission to get a pair of droids, who are carrying top secret files, to the Rebel Alliance. The cast includes Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Alec Guinness, all of whom give solid performances; particularly Ford, who brings a lot of charisma to his role. The special effects and costumes holdup remarkably well, and have a sort of '70s sci-fi charm to them. Additionally, John Williams has crafted a brilliant score that masterfully conveys the energy and grandeur of the film. Star Wars inspired a generation, and is a landmark science fiction film that revived the genre.
Easily one of the most influential pieces of entertainment ever created, this first Star Wars flick still stands the test of time. Not only did it change the face of cinema forever, but the franchise had a personal impact on me as well. If only the recent "sequels" measured up to this film's legacy...
The Force Will Be With You Always
Classic entertainment.
As a cinephile this was one of the films that I should have watched a long time ago but shamefully and for no particular reason I hadn't seen before. Maybe because I really never got interested about the Star Wars Universe but I felt that it was about time to finally get into it.
I once saw Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace and Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones but for being honest I don't recall much of both, I was very young at the time.
Star Wars is for sure an epic film, a landmark to sci-fi films and for cinema in general. For the ones who are watching it for the first time like me (I guess they may be just very few :p) we always have to take in consideration the era when this was made, and for that era the especial effects were absolutely amazing. The costume design, the set design, well all envolving that creative universe were fantastic!
And after finally seen it I have to agree with basicaly everyone, George Lucas did a very well done job!
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope - 10/10
Yeah, yeah, yeah, we all know Lucas changed the movie up and made it look a little shinier. But whatever. It's still the classic we know and love, as hard as that is for some to believe. Get over it. Some flaws/things I noticed for the first time while watching it on BluRay:
-Obi Wan's Krayt Dragon Call was changed yet again.
-Luke has absolutely no mourning period for his aunt and Uncle, (in fact he's more shaken up when Obi Wan dies). Leia has little to no mourning period for the destruction of Alderaan despite the initial shock. Weird.
-Tie Fighters look poorly superimposed - there appears to be a red square around them in certain scenes.
-You can see Darth Vaders eyes behind the glasses. This was particularly disturbing.
-That hole was a SERIOUS flaw in the Death Star. Like. Cover that up with something guys.
-C3PO didn't know who Obi Wan Kenobi was, after all the adventures they had been on previously. Obi Wan didn't recognize the droids either. C3PO also didn't realize he was on Tattooine? The planet he was built on? Or recognize the name Skywalker??
-That one scene where Han chases the Stormtroopers into the room with a bunch of Stormtroopers - They yell something along the lines of "shoot him", and Han shoots one of them. Why do the other 8 run away? That's a bit silly. 8 guns to one guys. Don't run.
After a few years off, it is time for a "Star Wars" rewatch. And while I'm curious to see how my opinion of the newer installments has changed, I've seen the original trilogy so many times that my verdict has solidified. Accordingly, I can say about Episode IV that it's obviously not a perfect movie. The characters are rather flat, and the plot is quite simple. Furthermore, the acting is not the cream of the crop, at least for people like Mark Hamill or Carrie Fisher.
Nevertheless, I still love the start of the saga, partly out of nostalgia and partly because it has some really strong moments that are considered iconic for a reason. The pacing is also pretty strong, so you never get bored. All in all, "Star Wars" is a fun ride that leaves you wanting more and remains relevant even after so many years.
Time to rewatch what I consider canon: the Robot Chicken sketch of Vader calling Palpatine to break the news about the Death Star.
"Go for Papa Palpatine."
The first entry in the greatest cinematic trilogy of all time is deserving of its perfect rating. 10/10 :star:
I liked the first half of the movie a lot, I didn't like the second half that much tho. This movie aged greatly and was a really entertaining experience.
The only thing that bothers me is the acting, they'll be like NPCs lol
Star Wars is a cinematic masterpiece that has captured the imaginations of audiences for decades. Its epic storyline, unforgettable characters, and groundbreaking special effects have made it a part of pop culture. From the heroic Luke Skywalker and the charismatic Han Solo to the iconic villains Darth Vader and the Emperor, the characters in Star Wars are some of the most beloved and recognizable in cinematic history. The films are filled with thrilling action scenes, spectacular visuals, and unforgettable musical scores that add to the overall magic of the franchise. Whether you're a die-hard fan or a newcomer to the franchise, Star Wars is an absolute must-watch for anyone who loves great storytelling, memorable characters, and thrilling sci-fi action.
I wish Trakt would use the original posters for these. I'm not even a Star Wars fanboy, it's just that they're easier to recognize.
The fight of good and evil through the stars.
This movie is a classic for a reason, and good reason to jump start one of the greatest franchises of all time. While it’s not my personal favorite of the Star Wars films, this is one that has to be respected and watched for many more years to come!
Rating: 3.5/5 - 8/10 - Would Recommend
Now I get the stormtrooper aim memes. Some parts of the movie felt a little like a slog and you can tell its age, but it still has a lot of charm.
Fantastic movie! It has the classical narrative structure, divided into three parts, and it makes sense. The special effects are great for something in 1977. The actors have their own roles and personalities, and it teaches the audience things like courage, loyalty, and discipline. It even has some funny dialogs. Harrison Ford made good acting here. The only thing I can say it missed is this kind of infantile personality of Luke, like some sort of Disney movie, but the rest of the movie is perfect! There are also a lot of equivalences to the old Roman political system. And some of the alien specimens are so funny to see. Definitely, a masterpiece to be preserved as part of the science fiction canon.
A favorite, have seen this numerous times and always enjoy it, but I recommend watch the rest of the trilogy and the prequels and sequels. The film does more than you'd expect from a film from 1977, with a solid story, developing characters and plot plot twists around every corner. If you enjoy sci fi movies do check out this one.
It is one of the most significant science-fiction works of all time and the most important space opera in the world. This film marked a before and after in the culture and history of cinema, as it was an important link in the creation of geek communities (not in a bad way) and cinematic universes. This, although it may seem pejorative, was an important step in history, because, just as in past centuries people of different cultures and ages created social bonds based on a common religion, this film triggered something similar. Many young people of that time, and even today, have created friendships based on a common geek passion. Not only that. This movie went beyond the cinematic world to splash into other niche markets such as video games, board games, clothing with slogans, etc., even household appliances, something that was not so usual back then.
However, despite being a timeless work that endures with splendor even in our times, this film was shot in 1977, at a time when special effects were still handcrafted and "primitive", a time when many illusions were made with models and not with CGI. These special effects may perhaps seem simple and somewhat obsolete if judged with digital presentism, but they were quite an audiovisual feat. In other words, it could be said that it is the result of the purest heritage of movie magic, a long journey that begins in Europe with the first films (which were also science fiction) of the early twentieth century.
Unfortunately, despite the respect I have for George Lucas, I think he has made a terrible mistake by using CGI. In case anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about, nowadays it's quite difficult to see the original movie, as it was released in theaters. All the ingenuity behind it has been mutilated and overwritten by digital generation of images that, although a priori it may seem to improve, for me it contributes absolutely nothing. It is a shame that one of the most important films in history has ended up as a palimpsest.

The Good:
That opening crawl, that majestic film score and the entire atmosphere created by the combination of the first couple of minutes of this film still send shivers down my spine. This is the beginning of a legendary franchise!
The cast of iconic characters is impossible to dislike - the endless bantering between C3-PO and R2-D2; the fearless Princess Leia; the confidence of smuggler Han Solo and his trusty walking carpet Chewbacca; the ruthless Darth Vader; and the farm boy gone hero, Luke Skywalker. These characters and their performers are so firmly etched into our collective mind that no one else could ever pull them off satisfyingly.
The sheer inventiveness of the script and the production design on a late 70s budget is astonishing. George Lucas is a visionary and that vision was translated correctly into these first three films. The technological and practical limitations of the era have been overcome admirably to form what is quite possibly the best piece of escapist cinema in the 70s.
Alec Guinness was reportedly bored by this production, but with his experience and charisma, you don't notice that.
Harrison Ford steals the show as the overly confident and smug Han Solo, a part without which Ford would have quit acting altogether.
The script spends a good amount of time introducing our central players, which means we care for all of them, even the droids and the baddies.
The first half of the film is slower but does a good job of establishing the world and the characters, so by the time we enter the Death Star sequence, all of the main characters feel comfortably familiar and the stakes feel high.
Perfectly combining the classic hero's journey, film mythology inspired by ancient Asian beliefs and original science fiction, George Lucas has constructed a story heavily inspired by several sources but still refreshingly original.
The combo of the dirty and worn out environment as seen on Tatooine and the shiny Stormtroopers and high-tech control rooms as seen on the Death Star expertly depicts the polarized world of the Star Wars galaxy.
The lightsaber duel isn't the most flashy or exciting one in the franchise, but it's a pivotal moment in the story and one of the most impactful moments within the entire series.
The climactic flying sequence is surprisingly high on adrenaline and impressively well made.
The Bad:
Disney+ unfortunately only has the "improved" versions, and while some of the minor details don't bother me, some of the digitally inserted changes stick out like a sore thumb. Han stepping on Jabba's tail, anyone?
The Ugly:
Greatest. Pub Music. Ever!
WACPINE RATING: 9.29 / 10 = 4,5 stars
The best film EVER made.
The best Star Wars movie, takes both 1 and 2 and 3 and solo and rogue one (I took them in order as it appeared on a streaming platform, even if I saw them and how they appeared) the story extremely good, those fights with obi wan and darth vader a little poorly done, the last fight with the shuttles and it takes very good, the visual effects are good and they are also through the film, not always yes they do appear.
What can I say about this film that has not already been said, it has a creative story and the acting is super top-notch the entire way through with some insanely quotable lines and also the effects for its time are superb. But I will say that I did find some of the films did look a bit dated, still, a great film and the story is still one of the best I have seen from a Sci-fi film.
Definitely not the best Star Wars film but it got the ball rolling for this franchise and you can see why as it really did at the time introduce the world to groundbreaking effects and this was mixed with some truly great acting, essential viewing for any Star Wars fan and I am sure I don't need to say that :)
I watched it on Disney+ which wasn't my brightest idea. While the move itself ist pretty great I really dislike how bad the "new" SFX fit in. I guess I'll have to keep on wishing for a 4K remaster without any tinkering.
Loved it!! Although I really wish I had seen this as a kid, I think it would have been more enjoyable then and now.
Incredible for its time!! An absolute must watch for everyone!
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Star Wars’:
the date for me is 1997 and not 1977
"A legendarily expansive and ambitious start to the sci-fi saga."
My favourite scene? Chalmun's Cantina!
I love them. Recently I wrote a dissertation proposal on this topic
It really has been too good. Being from 1977, I found it too good.
Classic and never gets old.
By far my favorite of the series. It never gets old. Just such a classic, pulpy Sci-Fi adventure packed with great characters and setting a fantastic mythology up.
This is my first Star Wars experience and yes I plan to run the complete franchise marathon !
Here is my quick review:
[Like]
+ Outstanding Technical Achievement which set the bar high for special effects
+ Music and score are pure ear candy
+ Loveable characters: Darth Vader, C3PO and R2 are always fun to watch
+ Captivating plot and perfect flow
[Dislike]
- Lack of emotional display from some characters (Spoilers Below):
- Luke's Uncle and Aunt disintegrated and not even a tear is shed
- A full planet blows up and no one cares
- Obi Wan perishes and Luke seems more attached to him than his Uncle and Aunt
Plot Complexity:
Easy to comprehend
Best Movie Quote:
Darth Vader: The Force is strong with this one.
What prompted this rewatch was, of course, the untimely death of our courageous, powerful, and sweet "Princess" Carrie Fisher...may you Rest In Piece. We all miss you dearly...
We all know this one, so it's not much to say about it, other than this is THE movie that has had the most impact on my movie-watching life. Star Wars was the first, in what has now become, a life-long obsession with science fiction.
George Lucas...you've done many strange and stupid things through your career. This is NOT one of them...
this was the first i've watched a Star Wars and i am wondering why i didn't watch it earlier. the movies that were made in that era were amazing.
One of the most successful movies of all time (and I'm not talking about the Box Office take). The film that changed the world.
A film that revolutionised the scifi genre and cinema in general - Although certain aspects of the film seem outdated, the film stands on its own 2 feet perfectly by todays standards, nearly 40 years after its release. It sets up the universe it takes place in with excellent story telling whilst not dragging the story or shifting focus from the characters.
I have grown up with this film and its subsequant sequals and i love them to bits. The force is definately with this film.
It is getting dated, but still a classic that everybody needs to see.
all I can say is you had to be their your loss they were some of the greatest scifi moments ih history glad you wernt their God bless yous #ShiftvW8
Starting marathon until Episode VII.
It's Good but it isn't as good as every one says.
Maybe because I'm not a fan of classics
A version which had extra terrible Playstation 1 -tier CGI, good god fuck Lucas.
The SFX, some scenes and a few spaceships look not very realistic nowadays but it's still a great action SciFi movie to watch.
Love the ratings for 1 and 10 on trakt :D
Paco Cinema 1: Image and sound 4.5 / 5: legendary film, which has not lost and I still like it as much as ever. May the force be with you
the third episode is way better than this one
Just watch the despecialized versions, where all the best visual sources have been combined to recreate a good looking original unaltered movie. Fantastic way to rewatch the original trilogy.
I KNOW EXCELLENT CINEMATOGRAPHY.
There is a reason I still only own it on VHS. Admittedly I own two copies of the trilogy but both are on VHS. Sadly, as far as I know, there is no DVD or BluRay of them from before Lucas started messing with the story.
wars.nuff turn off.rather not fight.needless to say Han fired first :P
not a big fan of Star wars :)
Awesome movie, Better Trilogy than the Prequels.
And in relation to that: And Anakin died old!
Haha, I love how you guys changed the love button label for this :)

I fell asleep thru parts of it. Not very engaging at all. Great for kids but not so much for adults. I liked it as a kid but now I’ve watched it again as an adult it disappoints.
