Not my usual choice of film but I actually really enjoyed it! Very very funny and even though I'm not a batman fan I followed all of the batman related jokes with ease. Want to re-watch.
This was a really sweet, cute, and funny movie. Also Zach Galifianakis voicing the Joker > Jared Leto acting as the Joker.
A fun take on the Batman movies! A breath of fresh air from the norm. I really enjoyed it. I wasn't expecting all those characters to make an appearance. Really hope more Lego movies come out since they are just really fun to watch. I highly recommend these movies.
[8.0/10] There’s a running gag among superhero film fans these days that each new Batman movie forces viewers to relive Bruce Wayne’s parents being killed, that grisly scene reimagined again and again for each new generation. The Lego Batman Movie, thankfully, spares us from that (thought it might have been amusing to see the grim tones of Joe Chill rendered in “pew-pew” style). Still, the movie essentially responds to that criticism as it plumbs the depths of the tropes and subtropes and clichés that have sprung up around the Bat-verse, finding a trite but true take on the character in the process.
The film achieves this by showing a Batman who gazes wistfully at photo of him and his parents near crime alley, and implying that he is afraid to have a family for fear that getting close to anyone will result in that sort of loss. It’s heavy stuff, but Lego Batman plays it just light enough to keep the proceedings fun, but strong enough to where you cannot help but offer a minor “aww” when he, inevitably, opens those emotional doors and lets people into his life.
That makes Lego Batman sound deeper and darker it is. There is nothing particularly groundbreaking about the core story of the film, how a gloomy loner learns to appreciate the value of community and family. But grafting that onto The Batman himself, particularly in a film that is constantly taking the stuffing out of the ever-stoic, uber-capable, eternal icon of all that is broody and badass, lends it an air of fun that never lets up.
It’s also a major part of why the film is so sound at its core. Every major character has a journey. Batman discovers that he’s already a part of a family. Alfred manages to help his surrogate son grow up. Dick Grayson finds a surrogate dad of his own. And Barbara Gordon succeeds in finding a new, more communal way to fight crime, by having Batman work with local law enforcement rather than apart from them. Again, none of this is so novel, but it all splits off the main theme, and gives each of the protagonists an animating purpose and distinct point-of-view throughout the proceedings.
But what truly sets Lego Batman apart is its the way the films writers clearly both love Batman, but find endless ways to make fun of the caricature of the character that has emerged in the popular culture over last thirty years or so. The just-for-fun confines of the Lego environment gives director Chris McKay (who’s used to this style of reimaginative comedy from his work on Robot Chicken) license to turn the Caped Crusader into a silly, over-the-top parody of himself, with plenty of nods to the character’s prior incarnations in tow.
Lego Batman is, in fact, a veritable cornucopia of humorous homages, great and small, to the entire history of the character. While the hilarious Batman: The Brave and The Bold animated series functioned similarly as a tribute to the wilder and woolier side of the character’s past appearances, it (mostly) played those nods straight, albeit tongue-in-cheek, while McKay’s film a whirling dervish of meta-gags about Batman’s greatest hits, filled to the brim with winks to the audience and blasts from the past. Whether it’s a cavalcade of Z-grade villains or Billy Dee Williams finally getting to play Two-Face or The Joker declaring that his latest caper will be even greater than the “thing with the two boats,” there are frequent shout outs to Batman’s other on-screen outings.
To that end, the film’s finest point is its opening fifteen minutes, which serves as both a nice entree to the world and tone of the film, and also as a nice, standalone gag-fest for not only The Dark Knight himself, but for all superhero flick opening acts. The rapid-fire gags and meta humor are in full swing, and the movie shows of its visual impressiveness as well, finding a nice balance between big action and Lego-fueled weightlessness. The torrent of hero-on-villain combat and comic asides creates an intro to the film that is as visually inventive as it is amusing.
But, as all films must, eventually Lego Batman’s initial thrills give way to the real plot. At this point, the film becomes more conventional in the paths its characters take, but the irreverence of it all, particularly the steely black-clad hero himself longing for a human connection in very silly terms, keeps the film enjoyable even when it can’t match the comic punch of that opening salvo. The cross-franchise mayhem, creative animated sequences, and murderer’s row of great actors voicing their Gotham counterparts, help buoy the proceedings even as the movie settles down.
Still, it’s the unconventional, loving-but-joshing take on the main character that wins the day. One of the quick gags early in the film is that the nominally dark, mature Batman loves romantic comedies. What seems like a throwaway gag, powered by the out of character fun of such a revelation, is fleshed out into a fulsome and funny bit of character, when The Joker takes offense to Batman refusing to call him his “greatest enemy.” What ensues is a story of a hero and archvillain told with the contours of the same romcoms, with jilted love (er, hate), a refusal to say three magic words, and the third act reconciliation and affirmation that takes the occasional obsessive subtext between Batman and the Clown Prince of Crime in an amusingly Jerry MaGuire-inspired direction.
That’s the gleam of The Lego Batman Movie. It’s a film that is not only aware of the storied, sometimes absurd history of its central (mini)figure, but it’s aware of the conversations that have cropped up in and among his endless permutations on screen over the years. It’s ready with a commentary on who Batman is, with all of his exaggerated qualities taken up to eleven, that is both age-appropriate for youngsters come to see a Lego adventure, and clever for the adults watching a riff on the hero they grew up with. And by offering a take on the character that is committed to not taking Batman too seriously, Lego Batman, oddly enough, presents one of the best encapsulations of the character and all the wonderful absurdity he’s spawned, that is affectionate, clever, and above all, fun.
Hilarious! It was sweet, funny and heartfelt all at the same time. They nailed the character of batman! So many pop culture references and nods. Loved it!
I expected a good time and was not dissapointed. I WAS surprised however how touching it was in parts. Succeeding where countless live action Batman movies have failed in showing the human side of Batman instead of Bruce Wayne. If I remember correctly in most of not all Batman movies screen time is split 50/50 for Wayne and Batman, give or take. Insightful character reflection is always reserved for the Wayne scenes, as the Batman scenes are filled with action. Not in this movie. The spotlight is almost exclusively on Batman, including the moments of self doubts and fear. That is a completely new approach and that's where it differs from a simple animated kids movie. I'd go even as far to say that while it may not be the best Batman movie, it is - for me at least - the most in-depth and portrayal of the caped crusader ever. So, yes the movie is a lot of fun with a ton of references and Easter eggs I'd probably need a second and third viewing to find them all, but beyond that it also gives you a glimpse into Batman's psyche in a way no other Batman movie has before. I would give this 8/10.
After rewatching all previous Batman movies, I can’t believe that this is actually the only one that almost made me cry. That said, the film was a little overwhelming to follow, with too many things happening on screen simultaneously and one joke coming after another in quick successions. Also, as the humor aims at different ages, not everything works for everybody. The final message is a little cheesy but still enough to move me. Overall, it’s both a solid parody and, to some extent, a great adaptation of the original character. Unlike all previous movie adaptations, it feels like it's the first time there is someone who actually read the comics involved in the project.

After the surprise that was "The Lego Movie", which was my favorite animated movie of 2014. So of course I was looking forward to this. When the team behind "Morel Orel" is directing your movie, it's going to be special. Now while I liked "The Lego Movie" a little more due to the writing and it's clever hidden message, but still.
"The Lego Batman Movie" is the best Batman movie since "The Dark Knight" and that's saying a lot. With it's bright warm colors, fast peace, and some many pop culture references for its humor. There was even a Pulp Fiction reference that I'm not sure many picked up on. It's a movie for both kids and adults. All of the Lego movies have two things in common which is heart and team work. It's really smart and goes as far from being just a kids movie.

Will Arnett as Batman might be my third favorite portrayal of the Caped Crusader. Just the voice, emotion swings, and his cocky attitude is basically Batman in a nutshell. While a funnier version, but also an interesting and compelling one. By focusing on family and the loneliness of Batman. The movie itself makes fun of Batman's history with Adam West and Schumacher movies, but also being somewhat respectful as well.
And who would've thought Zach Galifianakis was going to be a solid Joker. Galifianakis was having a blast with this, but also putting his own take on the character as well. The Jokers evil plans in the movie are so absurd and silly that somehow fits. It's perfect for the relationship between him and Batman. Making it a anti-romantic spoof.
All of the other cast all did a fantastic job. Michael Cera was great as Robin and had excellent chemistry with Will Arnett. Rosario Dawson was pretty good as Batgirl / Barbara Gordon. And Ralph Fiennes as Alfred was spot on, but kind of a wasted opportunity that he didn't reprise his role of Voldemort by voicing him, because Voldemort is in the movie. Oh well.
The animation is both really stunning and gorgeous. It's impressive that they once again made it look like it's stop motion animation with the power of CG. You can see the little details that you won't catch on your first watch. The finger prints that are clearly seen on the characters and the movement you would see in stop motion. I'm just be glad it's not the cheap looking direct-to-video animation that every movie starring Lego has been doing.
My only issue with "Lego Batman Movie" is the pacing. As I said before, there are some many pop culture references and all of them are funny, but the film goes by so quick it's easy to miss them. It doesn't give you much time to breath. So while your laughing at the joke, it will then make two or three more jokes. I literally wanted to say to the movie "Please, slow down a bit". But I can see this easily been fixed by re-watching it, which may help.

Now this movie is what is truly perfect.
This was the peak of the Lego movies. Everything here has been thought through to the smallest detail. The animation techniques surpass both Lego films and other animated films. There is real character development, especially in the feelings and attitudes of the characters. The script is a real work of art and Will Arnett plays an impressive role, with his sarcastic Batman voice and attitude. The comedy that they tried to insert into the film was well placed and used and provided me with some real laugh out loud moments. The reference to romance movies especially to those magnificent Jerry Maguire quotes (You complete me; You had me from hello...), amazing.
Additionally I would like to say that I saw this film six years ago in the cinema, accompanied by my wonderful mother. Good times...
When Warner Bros. announced The Lego Movie in 2011, many people were skeptical about its potential success. However, it turned out to be a hit and now it has become a franchise with The Lego Batman Movie being the latest addition. Will Arnett's portrayal of Batman was a highlight of the first film, but the question remains whether the joke can stretch that far to lead a film of its own. The plot of the film is a bit all over the place, but the gag rate is tremendous, and it makes up for the lack of momentum. The film also delves into the emotional baggage of Batman's parents' tragic demise and has twice the emotional resonance of any live-action superhero film. The animation is outstanding and the references to other Batman films and comics will appeal to die-hard fans and casual viewers alike.

How was this as consistently good as it was? A full length movie about a Lego version of Batman? For Batman fans this is jam packed with so many jokes, quips, references, send-ups, and more that it's often hard to keep track as it's coming at you so fast. For an hour and 45 minutes I was glued to the screen as my inner 9 year old ate up everything this movie had to offer. It's seriously great no matter how old you are.
Cool. Fun. Entertaining. A lego movie. You don't have to be a Batman fan to enjoy this.

That was actually hilarious. I was not expecting it to be as entertaining as it was. I love how they also referenced the old iterations of Batman. Great family fun.

Well this film was well 'built' with some great gags, lots of easter eggs, lots of random funny shiz, and great sound tracks, and action packed! Chris Mckay knows how to make a great animation along with lego movie XD
The first thirty minutes open with a bang, but it slows down to a crawl before its near painful death, revealing that the Lego films are already burning out.
Great movie for kids, I'm sure I would have loved it then. It was an okay movie. Better than most kids movies, other than Pixar of course.
The Lego Batman Movie continues the fun of the original Lego movie. This a great spoof that pokes fun at Batman while also paying tribute to one of the best characters ever created. There is a lot of great humor and lots of great Easter Eggs for the Batman fans. All the characters are a lot of fun and I'm sure we'll see a lot more of them in the Lego universe.
Fully understand that at 43 I am not the target audience for this movie. However, I have to say I found it to be a pretty poor effort. After the Lego Movie I was expecting more.
I'm feeling a bit let down, truth be told. I certainly didn't expect to see this and miss The Lego Movie, but there you have it. There were a couple of laughs out loud to be found here, but for the most part, this paled in comparison to the first.
A one joke movie where the ideas its playing with get stretched very thin over its runtime. It’s missing that Lord and Miller touch, a lot of the jokes here aren’t funny or trying too hard. There’s not a lot more to it really. Story and character are pushed aside in favor of creating a fourth wall breaking homage to this character, which to me sounds like something better suited for a short film or SNL sketch. It’s almost like this version of Batman was always meant to be a sidekick because he works better in small doses. The film looks good and there’s a lot of visual creativity and action, but it’s not as inspired as The Lego Movie. Will Arnett does a great job as the character, all the other voice acting is completely unremarkable. I wonder if they forgot they’re making an animated film, because there’s a general lack of personality and expression coming from the rest of the cast. Finally, the music and score are boring and forgettable, except Batman’s introduction song which is hilarious and easily the best scene in the film.

This movie was so funny! Laugh out loud, sometimes I couldn’t hide a snort, type of funny. Very clever and hilarious. Something for everyone. I cannot believe how much I enjoyed this (I am not the intended audience by far).
Fresh and exciting, The LEGO Batman Movie takes the caped crusader where he has never gone before. The story follows Bruce Wayne as he struggles with his loneliness and isolation, leading him to adopt an orphan; meanwhile, as Batman, he struggles to remain relevant after the Joker and all of his other nemeses surrender. Featuring the voice talents of Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Rosario Dawson, and Zach Galifianakis, the film has a solid cast. And the animation is especially good, with a lot of creative set and vehicle designs. However, the writing is kind of weak; as at times it can be extremely clever and at other times it couldn’t be more cliché and formulaic. Yet despite whatever problems it has, The LEGO Batman Movie is incredibly entertaining and fun.

Though I prefer Superman to Batman, the Caped Crusader is still an amazing superhero in his own right. Between movies, shows, comics, and even print novels, I've experienced countless stories over the past decade or so featuring DC Comics' do-gooders, many of which featured Bats in a starring role. While this is a more light-hearted take on the Dark Knight, it still made for a great movie. The animation and voice work were superb, and the action sequences were spot-on. Having characters from other sci-fi/fantasy universes made it a geek's dream come true. Better yet, it makes a great point: No man is an island; we all need other people in our lives. I would say that I hope we see more Lego superhero flicks, but, it seems that there are already others that I have yet to see; I need to check my local library for more such films.

While the LEGO Batman Movie is not as brilliant or clever as the original, The LEGO Movie, it's both charming and surprisingly thought-provoking. This isn't just a great silly kids film, but also a true delve into the character of Batman. This is the first time where the filmmakers actually stop the film to take a minute to talk about who Batman is as a person. In a comedic fashion, we see all his past incarnations (Yes, including the one with bat nipples), but Batman has to decide between two lives. It doesn't even make Batman out to be a villain, they flat-out say he's not the good or bad guy, but instead, troubled. He has to decide between living a life of solitude and anger, or opening up to others and accepting people back into his life.
If you have kids, I highly recommend taking them to see this. Lots of good jokes only adults will get, and plenty of funny awesome action for the little ones.
A sort of remix/spinoff of the formula that worked so well in 2014's surprising Lego Movie. Lego Batman hits a number of the same beats, from the abundance of stand-up comics in the cast to the quirky visual stylings and snappy musical numbers, but it also carves out plenty of time to make its own mark. Which, in this case, translates to a whole lot of nudge-grin-wink references to the caped crusader's long cinematic ancestry and some good-natured roasts regarding his cagier moments in other media.
Batman as a pop culture icon is ripe for this kind of deconstruction, and the film is often quite ruthless about it, which feels refreshing and leads to some genuinely inspired takes on the character. Occasionally it can get a bit too cute and overreach, but that goes with the territory. Not every shot is going to find its mark. The exceptionally quick tempo can feel overwhelming at times, though, especially when we're jamming a dozen punchlines into the same spot that's been reserved for an important plot point. It functions for a greater purpose in the end, keeping the younger audience entertained with bright flashies while half the jokes sail over their heads, but at some points it felt like I'd just downed a dozen cans of Mountain Dew and my eyeballs were doing cartwheels.
Entertaining but a touch on the shallow side, it frequently toes the line between overstuffed fun and downright sensory overload.

Exciting animated movie which also carries an important lesson that even a superhero can't cope with all the bad guys by himself he needs his loyal and loving friends against crime. Although, I felt this message too straightforward, I was also very entertained.

Começa bem, com o estrondo de uma pujante irreverência sobre o universo Batman (com a DC a reboque), levado numa brisa de corrosivo humor embuido numa certa panache poderosa a ameaçar que este spin-off iria ser ainda melhor que The Lego Movie. Durante certo tempo é... mas... não se aguenta.
A meados da coisa torna-se aborrecido, repetitivo e a irreverência substitui-se com banalidade. Atrevo-me mesmo a dizer que desponta inclusive o mau gosto e esboça um sub-texto algo subversivo com alusões nada inocentes, como se ficasse bem o caminho de gozo que pretende desbravar sob um manto de figuras que têm mais dimensão do que isto.
Mesmo assim é uma animação fervilhante em cor, piadas, referencias e com uma primeira parte potente. Tecnicamente bem feito mas com um argumento que se perde no seu auto-armanço em se achar aquilo que não consegue atingir. The Lego Movie era um grande filme mas este não é.

A lot of the jokes will fly over kids heads but the constant bombardment of wisecracks means this doesn't matter. It seems the Lego movies will run and run (on tiny blocky legs) if they match the quality of this film, where everything is indeed awesome.*
