Does every single foreign adaptation of Korean media suck...? I'm genuinely curious
A cheap knockoff only looking to cash in on the name falls flat on its face.
This is just pure cringe festival.. MrBeast version of squid game was FAR better than this one.
:rage:Terrible. Horrible. CRINGE!!! 10 minutes was enough!!!
I thought it was season 2 of squid game, where people all over the world would volunteer to go there and win money or die....
no one dies, it's paint. it's a reality show.
so bad, so bad...
this is so sad... I want season 2!
This show is great. I didn't think they could pull it off given the fact "Squid Games" had people being murdered but somehow they managed to make it real enough that it has me hooked so far after 3 epi's
Not sure about the low ratings or some of the comments, do peopel actually think this is either season 2 of the real Squid Games or did they just hear about the South Korean show and looked for it and found this instead and were disappointed not realizing they were watching the wrong show?!? Either way.... dumb. lol This is just a game show based on the Korean show.
Don't get everyone's issue, people seem to think this is season 2 of Squid Game or something aha, it's a reality show, of course it's not gonna have an in depth plot and 'characters', I think people genuinely believe this is meant to be the second season. I actually had fun with this, went in with the lowest expectations are don't care for reality shows and actually managed to have some fun with it!
For what it's set out to accomplish I can see how it can be entertaining. I definitely get the low ratings but, they obviously accomplished what they set out to do. It was interesting enough for me to watch it through its entirety it got more and more boring until the end.
the most blatantly rigged reality TV competition I have ever seen
Of course this garbage gets renewed for another season. Just proves the lack of taste of the average viewers.
So far i'm not enjoying this too much , too much drama , too different than the original show
It's a 'Meh' for me
I really enjoyed watching this, can't wait for the remaining episode
is it weird to say i love it more than the main show ?? because i really appreciated it !! and i look forward to the last 5 episodes, i definitely recommend it
This show is savage. I had my doubts, but from an entertainment perspective, it's impressive. I'm not usually into reality TV, but this one truly stands out. The ruthlessness of people in pursuit of a life-changing sum of money is a fascinating aspect. It unfolds like a human experiment, shedding light on various social aspects of society. I binge-watched the entire first part of season one in a day. For a reality show that takes inspiration from the original Squid Game series, I'd say it lives up to expectations. Looking forward to the rest of the first season. Great potential here for future seasons!
it is terrible
misses the mark by ten trillion lightyears. forgettable characters, no plot, zero awareness, just the worst thing i have ever seen
Why the fuck does this even exist? just go watch Mr. Beasts version instead it has more thought, effort, the contestants are actually kind of funny and best of all it's free!.
Disappointingly, "Squid Games: The Challenge" fell short of my high expectations fueled by media hype. Rather than the gripping intensity of the original series, it comes across as a tedious portrayal, resembling a group of amateurs navigating a squid game-themed amusement park. The show misses the mark, especially considering the success of the original "Squid Game." It seems Netflix might be headed for a potential flop with this one.
Oh my god, this really does no favours for Americans, the crying of contestants because they have to pick someone, the bro culture between guys who have known each other for 5 minutes and the female cheating is ridiculous, America has taken this concept of a show and Americanized it and ruined it.
It's like they searched the globe for the most stereotypical people they could find. It makes it so tough to watch. It's also rif with bullying and other childish behaviors that match the children's games they're playing. At one point a group of bros gang up on another guy telling him to man up even though none of them are willing to do it themselves. It's literally like watching a group of children on the playground. Then all these other people call him names like they're five. In the original show they came at it like adults but this is missing that aspect. Perhaps it's the lack of real consequences for their actions. Either way this is just mediocre reality TV. The best part is watching them play dead.
I liked this and am surprised at how polarising it is in the comments here. Unfortunately the negative comments don't give very good explanations for why they didn't like it beyond pointless criticisms like as "lame" and "fake". Some people seemed to expect the show to follow a narrative similar to the original scripted series and are disappointed that the contestants act like real people. Conversely, other people think it's so obviously fake and the most fake of fake things ever to be made. How can the critics be divided into hating the show for not both not having a story like a scripted show and also for being to fake?
Then there are the people who think that Mr Beasts version was better. Mr Beasts version had no drama and while impressive for youtube, was a pretty janky recreation while this version is an impressive recreation given they have limited control over the contestants and they can't kill them to create tension. Maybe the fact that this one looks so similar to the Korean show that it has given people unrealistic expectations.
As far as reality TV goes, I thought this was extremely impressive. I had avoided watching it for ages and finally thought I'd take a bit of a look just to get an idea. I then ended up binge watching the whole thing and finding it much more rewarding than most reality TV I've seen... I just finished watching season 6 of The Circle (US), now that's a few hours of my life I can confidently say I wasted.
By it's nature, I think the show suffered when it got down to 3 people for the final episode. With only 3 people it didn't have an interesting enough dynamic but maybe it was just the 3 that made it and if there was a different mix it could have created more tension. It's hard to say how they can fix the end but it might come down to making them play a different antepenultimate* game that will skew towards having people who dislike each other face off in the final game.
*antepenultimate - just had to look up what comes before penultimate.
Omg, They really made a reality show of this? Talk about missing the point of the original. I’m canceling my Netflix subscription because of this.
Even by terrible mindless reality game show standards, this is bad. How broken have we become psychologically that we don't even have a concept of "game" anymore? I'm envisioning a archetypal "bro" yelling maniacally, "IT'S DOG EAT DOG" and "LIFE'S NOT FAIR" as he goes around punching people in the dick for absolutely no rhyme or reason. There's no structure to suggest you can have an adequate strategy. They're not trying to rely on narratives that bolster any given person's story. In fact, each time they have someone speak on their story, it's filler. One episode in particular was so boring, it's hard to even imagine the conversation behind why you think a board game would be more compelling than tug-of-war unless you somehow have $4,560,000 for prize money and not liability insurance.
I've watched The Challenge since I was 10. 25 years later I still get the "ick" feeling when they do something that feels needlessly arbitrary or that is in direct spite of the spirit of "competition" or "fairness." This show has taken every worst decision over the last 25 years from The Challenge, put a popular TV show's skin on it, and taken 456 tons of shit and poured it down dumb dumb hill. This is barely noise you should wipe your ass to.
Got bored of this show half way thru episode 6, basically there has been more of people just voting other people off than the actual challenges in the show.
This is just so lame on so many levels.
Don't waste a second of your precious time on this one.
The Korean original was awesome - this is just utter and ultimate BS.
It's just a shame.
Too slow. I lost interest pretty quickly.
What a great show really enjoyed this.
I really don't like the end game. I'm expecting something spectacular but it's just rock paper scissors and I just fast forward to see the result. it's not even exciting at all.
If you take this for what it is - a Squid Game Reality TV / game show, it has some decent entertainment value in regards to how people behave with this amount of money involved but I also did go very heavy on the skip +10s button (especially in the first half).
There also have been a lot of first person accounts of the show popping up, including rigging accusations, which I sort off get but the behind the scenes bonus actually highlights that they've put in a lot of effort to accommodate for the insane amount of people on camera. Editing obviously can do a lot too (like the first game in reality supposedly taking more than 7 hours to complete).
Take it or leave it imho.
I'm 4 episodes in and have never seen the original show fwiw. But this "reality" show seems so fake. The players conversations and reactions seem forced and scripted and not genuine. They all come across as bad actors.
Players are terribe specially in finale ... without personality half gays .. no character hate people without character rather be bad then empty .... Two guys left in top totally not deserved ... not interesting
Fake “reality tv” garbage. You need the patient of a saint to sit through this dragged out boring waste of bandwidth. I’d rather watch paint dry
At the stage level it is the same,... but the participants (some) cry a lot and the series is very annoying even though there are no deaths (fiction)

Fakest, phoniest, lamest, most manipulative crap I have ever watched!
