[8.3/10] Another quality episode. The A-story, with Bob and Gene going to the planetarium was a nice story between the father and son, a pairing that they only do sporadically. One of the real nice parts of Bob’s Burgers is that Bob, for all his foibles now and then, is a really good dad, and Gene, for all his eccentricities, tries to be a good son. Sneaking back into the laser light show makes for a good wacky adventure for the two of them, gives the show a chance to expertly parody hilariously unsubtle rock operas, and creates a fun situation for the two Belcher boys to bond.

The B-story, with Linda, the girls, and Gretchen at the doll store is a laugh riot too. For one thing, Gretchen cracked me up more than she ever has before. (The line “You know how some restaurants are like ‘jacket required’ or ‘mam, that bathing suit needs a bottom’” slayed me.) For another, an overly committed American Girl Doll-esque sword is the perfect quirky thing for this show to make fun of. The combination of the doll-based humor, Tina’s doll-o-phobia, and Louise wanting to save the doll that’ll be discontinued led to a lot of fun and nice character moments all around.

Another funny, well-written episode from this show that just makes it look easy.
