I am a gaming journalist. This movie IS the Tomb Raider (2013) game. Very minor differences. The story and the art direction are taken from the game. Although I love the gaming series, I didn't very much like the two previous movies. This one was pretty decent, in spite of all the criticism. Vikander is a great Lara and more importantly a good actress.
I would prefer it if the movie deviated more from the game. It was not a really good idea to make it the same and also the direction wasn't top notch. It was just ok, as was the script and the characters. Too many cliches that work on games nowadays, do not work well any more on a 2018 movie.
When all is said and done, the movie needed more and more fresh ideas to expand on the world of Tomb Raider and the characters and not follow so closely the game. But, I would most definitely like to see a sequel. And given the fact that it has made more than $100m, I think we 'll see another one soon. Also, this film made me want to play the first game (2013) again and I can't wait to play Shadow of the Tomb Raider... so... mission accomplished, Square Enix.
