There's something wrong with every character in this show, and that really is a pivotal part as to why this show works so well. Specifically regarding Beck, the show would have had an entirely different tone if she was a perfect person. She has issues, not as bad as Joe,obviously but issues nonetheless. The similarity in the toxic behavior of Peach and Joe is also interesting. How Joes inner monologue is criticising Peach for the exact same things that he does, he has no self-awareness. You always hate the people that reflect your own flaws, although this is mainly about being possessive though, which is something they both very much are. Joe obviously has a savior complex. Going back to the whole thing about Beck being a flawed human. I think that was necessary for the whole thing to work seeing as Joe would basically have nothing to "fix" about her life if she didn't and the show wouldn't be nearly as eventful. It's weird though because he knew she was flawed yet would justify every mistake she made and blame it on other people which isn't surprising seeing as he was obsessed with her. I know a lot of people don't like Beck, which is fair enough but I personally didn't find her as daft and annoying as some people did. Anything bad she did pales in comparison to Joe. Ultimately, she is a flawed human, like most are. Her friends are kind of crappy, the way she copes with things aren't the healthiest and her life is just kind of a mess. Just like a lot of people that age. I guess some people have an easier time hating on her because it's more relatable, more people can relate to being cheated on than having someone murder people you care about. The show itself is really disturbing but the fact that some people are romanticizing Joe is even more disturbing. When we're hearing his thoughts justifying his behavior, ew what a creep, what a creep. I don't think there's anything redeemable about Joe as a character. His thoughts are really funny at times though, morbid but funny. Season 2 will be interesting.
