The Poker House 2008

The Poker House is centered around Agnes, a teenage girl that literally lives in hell. When her teenage years were supposed to be one of the happiest days like any other teenager she has to take care of her two younger sisters while her mother, a drug addict and prostitute, doesn't care about them. Their house should be the most important place for them to feel good and save but it's just the opposite.

The performances are great, once again the amazing Jennifer Lawrence is able to touch your emotions. She did a terrific job portraying Anges. Chloe Grace Moretz is so adorable! I don't know with what age she did this film but in here she was already showing her great acting skills. Selma Blair the other sister was also good.

The film suffers from some plot problems but the powerful acting overcomes that. What I loved more about the film is the feeling of hope that it leaves us at the end. The last scene is absolutely sweet and beautiful and after you had watched a pretty sad and depressing film it will leave you with a smile on your face.

This film is based on a true story. The true story of the writer and director of this film, Lori Petty.
