Murder Mystery 2019

The Good:

  • The physical comedy is actually quite good at times - I had a few good laughs.
  • The film looks good and its final moments feel like a spoof of a Bond film - close to Johnny English or Austin Powers.
  • It manages to stay entertaining for most of its run-time.
  • The chemistry between Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, while awkward and restrained at times, feels surprisingly good and realistic.
  • It's a very light-hearted summer comedy film, and shouldn't be taken too seriously.

The Bad:

  • The acting is never off, but feels incredibly awkward at times - particularly when considering Aniston, Sandler and Luke Evans.
  • The dialogue is mostly unnatural and filled with awkward jokes and quips that made me feel uncomfortable.
  • The verbal comedy is not very good at all.
  • The first part of the movie features a weak set-up and lots of messing round with little to no result.
  • The second part of the film is a modernized Agatha Christie-story with all the clichés.
  • Sandler plays an annoyingly stereotypical male pig.
  • Waste of talents such as David Walliams and Terence Stamp.
  • The supporting characters are all one sided and turn boring very quickly.
  • You can't help but feel sorry for the talented actors, who are forced to play characters with exaggerated personalities and no character development.
  • The script tries too hard to be inventive that it just feels forced.
  • The acting turns overly dramatic and theatrical at times, and it feels out of place in a comedy like this.
  • Much of the comedy has already been done multiple times before - and usually a lot better.

Verdict:
Murder Mystery can be good fun at best, but it's mostly a clichéd, generic and forgettable summer comedy.
