I'm not sure what it was but this was really lacking something for me. It took too long to get going and then just didn't have enough go.
I personally wouldn't compare it to Despicable Me as have been in the comments (though that may be unfair as I absolutely love it) as there is just no comparable action, many of the the jokes just didn't land for me and the visual gags wore thin, some just from repetition.
