As a movie, it's fine, as a plot it's confusing and convoluted.
Lyutsifer Safin isn't a fleshed-out character, the first half the movie his motivations are clear, the second half of the movie and the major threat have no stated purpose or reason - just a mentioned threat. There is an off-handed comment that's ham-fisted and isn't propagated by other characters or the movie itself and feels incredibly out of place.
It is clear to me that the initial script writer made an excessively long movie and it was edited down to a passable film lacking solid story telling in the conflict, particularly in regard to Safin.
