I agree with almost everything you said, the first seasons were so great and so much better than the last 3 or 4 ones. But I still think that this show is better than 80% of TV Shows currenty airing.
Damn true first 5 season where good but season 11 still interessting with gods sister.
So for all the haters that have nothing else to do then bash series they don't like just get out of here and follow some other crappy shows you prolly are following.

the show was actually written for five seasons, Kripke himself said it, though the popularity of the show took a toll on this statement.
the sixth season was a cornerstone for the show, but fans were still taking it in, so here we are.
I agree with a you that season 1-5 was great. It had a flow, a sense of continuity that makes it such a great show. It got a little ‘hmmmm meh/what??’ for seasons 6 and 7. Though, I have to say the story gets better at mid season 8. With new history revealed about the Winchester brothers and interesting concepts revolving demons and angels, it certainly worth your time in continuing watching the show.
I actually only came into the comments here to write the exact same thing. I tell people regularly if you want a good show to binge watch you should do supernatural 1-5 because that's about as good as a tv show can get, but really, don't bother going passed 5, you don't even need to, swan song could have been the perfect ending.
I used to watch in real time and I was about done with it by about s06e03 and completely put off by season 7.
Now I just see it on the list of renewed shows every year wondering who's still watching it I honestly believe if they had ended it after 5 then it would now be talked about in the same way as shows like battlestar and firefly.
Oh well. I have my 1-5 collection and can easily pretend no more exists..

I have so much to say about this show and how bad it is. If you want a excellent supernatural drama, then watch this BUT only from season 1 to 5. The fifth season's finale offers a great ending to the show and after that, everything is just plain bad. The plots stop making sense, they bring back characters just to kill them off and introduce new ones nobody gives a shit about. Think about everything that makes the show amazing, all those characters you love. Well, you'll be lucky if they decide to kill them off, because they managed to ruin Castiel and Crowley's characters to a point where I can't even stand them. Season 10's Crowley is just terrible, all he does is sit on his chair in his castle or whatever the hell that is (look i made a pun) and kill random demons. Regarding Castiel, a lot happens to him after the fifth season, sure, but his character just doesn't evolve. This is so irritating because i was such a huge fan of this show but now i feel like i'm gonna have to drop it.
I can only recommend the 5 first seasons, after that everything is just bad.
Just look at the gap between season 1-5 ratings and season 6-10 (or 11 now, since it has been renewed), and really the only people still defending this show are tumblr hardcore fans and shippers.
