Alone

Season 1

This is an enjoyable and somewhat educational show.

It was really an insane idea for season 1. Ten men were stranded, each alone, on and around Vancouver Island. This is an area of several past cougar attacks on humans, and there are zillions of bears plus some wolf packs. Each of these types of animals makes a guest appearance on the show. That is really dangerous, and some participants won't have the stomach for it. If it had been ten women, I'm not so sure they all would have survived. No offense, it's just that women can be cougar meal-sized and about once a month they smell extra cougar-licious. The last man left wins $500,000.

The show is worth watching, mostly to experience the participant from Georgia. He's a wonderful outdoorsman, but yet a poet or man of literature with a huge vocabulary. He is often hilarious.

There are survival things to learn. I think the most important lesson is don't cook fish in camp, unless you want to attract (big) kitty cats! I think it was on this show that one guy said to just think of how vicious a house cat can be, and then scale that up to man-sized.

Being alone for so long, each man's greatest adversary becomes himself. That is also an important lesson.
