The first ten minutes are utterly depressing. I'm wondering if this is relentless theme throughout the entire movie? By twenty minutes I'm certain it is. Least the movie was quick to set up how the characters interacted and the atmosphere of the home. Its the typical prisoner in a home story. Sadly it revels in character despair like a cheap horror does with gore.
So now the boy is left in the home with his bed ridden mother. Good idea. He darts around like Drop Dead Fred on crack because he's crazy remember. If the character is this nuts why leave him in the home with his mother? Why isn't he in a home for crazies? Has he no carer? So he progresses with the insanity (for some reason he has an infinite amount of drugs at hand) and the film feels like it's climaxed with it's shock techniques. Theres still plenty of run time left and I'm wondering how will shock it's relying on will progress? It doesn't really. It can't.
The time is padded out with a very slow knife chase with Drop Dead Fred on crack holding a knife and his mother holding a needle. He kills her. An obvious shock scene of him jabbing a ton of needles in his arm (non effective shock by now) and a drawn out hallucination to be arty and for the filmmaker to try and show his surreal side. It failed. Then some scenes with trigger from only fools and horses doing pretty much the same as the rest of the movie.
So the boy kills his mom and trigger defends him at the funeral. Why isn't the boy locked up? I start to do something else because this is really stupid.... It ends with trigger holding a knife and someone is coming at him with a needle. The crazy boys words about trust and being the man echo. Because those words were apparently the catalyst for all this. The demons. The repeat of the words feel like it's trying to wrap it up and give a feeling of a complete story. In this case it doesn't work because the words are still meaningless. There was no real back story to that pain. The character development was turn up the crazy to 11. The dialogue started off normal enough but by the end you're sick of hearing some of it.
Watch it if you want to be disturbed but don't expect a good movie.
