Predictable but fun. Enjoyed getting to see these actors cast together!
Apart from the Scottish accent not really enjoyable for me, and also Netfix really messed up the foreign audio again.
This movie was for sure written by a man, the characters were dry, the music was bad, the cuts sucked, just overall a big no for me, people can’t make good romantic movies anymore
With eyes cast to the floor, I humbly confess to having started my day with a cookie cutter Christmas romance. After years of deriding the genre, I succumbed to the lore. All my friends who LOVE this genre will get great pleasure from my fall.
The draw was Carey Elwes (I was a huge PRINCESS BRIDE fan) and Brooke Shields. So, the choice was curiosity driven. Could this be the one that brings a unique spin that elevates the genre? Nope. Same inevitable story arch. Less than the necessary chemistry between the leads despite several overlong “romantic moments”. Sorry, I just don’t think my ideal of romance will ever compromise to this level. I give this movie a 5 (meh) out of 10. [Christmas Romance]
A decent enough Christmas movie with close to no twists or real drama. I suspect they wanted, perhaps even recorded her ex having his wedding in the same castle but I am happy they decided against it as it would only have added some unnecessary drama. Nothing special, but better than most Netflix Christmas flicks. And Scotland is as dreamy as always!
Brooke Shields and Cary Elwes star in the Netflix holiday romance A Castle for Christmas. To avoid bankruptcy an Irish duke agrees to sell his castle to a rich American novelist on the condition that he be allowed to stay there to show her how to manage the property while the sale is finalized, hoping to scare her off once she realizes the hardships in the upkeep, but they soon develop feeling for each other. The plot is painfully formulaic and predicable, but Shields and Elwes have a bit a charm to them. And the set decorators do a good job at giving the castle an alluring mystique. Also, the soundtracks adds a bit of energy and Christmas spirit. A Castle for Christmas has its problems, but overall it proves to be a fairly entertaining, if not stereotypical, romantic comedy.
Fun to watch xmas movie.
The main problem is not that this movie has no plot, but it has no story whatsoever. I'm relatively sure that any of the conversations in this movie never have and will occur in the entirety of mankind.
I've watched the whole movie. I know I did some serious sins earlier in my life and I know that this was the remedy and the price from the universe for them. Still not worth it.
Great castle and accent. But Brooke is not a good actress and she won't save this movie.
Starting Christmas watching (far earlier this year) with a film that is neither great nor bad... it more just exists in the ever growing realm of Christmas films. Nothing offensively bad here but as others have said, the leads lacks chemistry and where there should have been vital moments, e.g. more time spent on the conflict or more time building the blossoming romance, the writer/director forgo that to move things along.
I will say though, give me more of Eilidh Loan. She was fantastic.
There was something off, I had trouble with the lighting on Sophie. The story was OK.. I loved the part where the Donatellis from princess switch came by. It was really awkward like they were going to ruin everything, but they never appeared again in the movie.

This could have been a good Christmas/Hallmark style movie, if only there was good chemistry between the two main characters. Unfortunately that’s not the case here.
