A Kiss for Corliss 1949

I actually found it fairly entertaining for most of its run time, despite the histrionic hysterics of most of the characters, but the film ends with the worst of it in an off-screen fight that's about as sophisticated as the roadrunner vs. Wile E. Coyote. I'd never seen a grown-up Shirley Temple in anything before, but she managed to remain charming and adorable even as she causes every bit of trouble on-screen, with her leading along her simpering boyfriend (who I can't help but be reminded of Ben Shapiro, which did make it funnier.) What drives most of the humor, for me, were Temple's and Niven's characters, who were absolutely shameless amidst the backdrop of excitable, 1940s American pearl clutching. It does make one sympathize with the mother, though.
