A Silent Voice: The Movie 2016

It's OK. I didn't need my heart anyway.

I pushed back watching this for a while now. I did not want to go through what I went through when I watched Clannad. Yet here I am... feeling so down after watching this amazing piece of art. It makes me wonder what kind of life I'm living, and why I feel so empty after watching Anime such as this one.

Friendship is an amazing thing, but not everyone gets to experience it... Anxiety, depression, social awkwardness, etc. This Anime really puts that into perspective, among many other things.

My final thoughts: If you have not watched this yet, or you are trying to decide whether you should, please know that this Anime is an emotional roller coaster, and you will likely cry or feel very depressed after watching this. I pushed back watching this because I did not want to cry, but I watched it tonight and have no regrets. Watch this masterpiece when you are ready, and don't force yourself into it. I'm glad I waited.

I wasn't going to admit it but this movie made me cry :'(
Thank you Yamada for create this beautiful piece of art.

This is actually pretty terrible.

You cannot claim to depict a person who is deaf with her only character traits being deafness and feeding fish.
And her "repentant" bully who continually exposes her to her abusers only realises his folly after becoming a victim himself. Constant themes of suicide and depression with no real method of addressing it except to have the movie say "If you have friends you won't be depressed or suicidal anymore, yay!"

This was such an incredibly powerful movie. Even a couple days later after watching it, I keep coming back to it, feeling like I should watch it again. Either I might’ve missed something the first time or maybe I just want to ride the roller coaster again. There’s an incredible gravity to this film just keeps trying to pull me back in. I play the scenes again and again in my head and the emotions of it all swell within me.

This was such a moving journey of bullying, self-hate, suicide, and perhaps, redemption. I will never think about the depression around me the same way, and because of this movie, I will never, ever hesitate to reach out to those around me. Just one hand can pull someone back from the brinks of despair and every life is worth it.

The story was good and the movie was emotional but the foundation of the movie was weak because I don't see any logic in sending a deaf kid to normal school. It's like giving them one more thing to cry about. The teachers did not give her any special attention and she was bullied and it looked liked the school didn't care for her at all.
When Shouya start's getting bullied it was really confusing I thought they were flashbacks for a minute.Great character development of Shouya can't say the same for shoko.
Shouya's fat friend was funny and I loved the way they show how Shouya blocks the world through those purple crosses.

This awesome movie moved me. It made me cry. I felt sad in the mid and was happy in the end. I was hoping them to be couple in the end. But that's good too.

While the film is certainly geared towards teenagers, I was still able to enjoy the focus of the story (bullying and friendship) and animation in one of the better animés that I've seen of late.

While A Silent Voice suffers from a lack of editing and a sprawling plot line (typical of films made from manga series), the overall film is touching.

Beautiful & heartbreaking. A must watch!

Best Movie Of All Time No Cap…..

I think there was a lot to the story than what they we were able to fit in this 2hour movie. Felt like so many details were left out.

it was kinda hard to watch this movie because of my past experience, though the story itself was beautifully done. I've never cried so much since Kimi No Na wa.

Best movie I've ever watched!

Had the potential to be an 8/10, but for me I think they focused way too much on the girl bully and I believe the ending could've been a little better by showing a bit more of their actual 'relationship'. That aside I loved the animation and simple yet in depth story of depression, love and friendship. Seems a bit overlooked this film and I do think it's special. 7.9/10

Good film and that's about where it sits for me. It's not a masterpiece and it's not a tragedy. The emotional impact in elements of the film are lessened by how little character development we have outside the lead male role. The deaf girl is subject to skirt and leg shots, with no defining traits other than her apologising nature for everything. The core story about friendships, growing up and accepting or facing elements of your life you don't like is commendable but it just doesn't feel like the payoff is worth it. I was left wanting something more from the main plot, it doesn't need to be a traditional redemption arc but the whole story kinda comes to a halt.

It's well animated and visually pretty to watch.

A Silent Voice is about coming to terms with the past while learning to live in the present.

The entire cast of characters is unique, clearly living their own lives and dealing with their own problems. Even when they aren't wholly sympathetic or right, it is possible to understand the reasoning for their actions. Their mistakes are not excused, but they learn and grow from them, and the suffering and regret Ishida, the main character, goes through helps him grow and move on, without ever thinking what he did was excusable in any way.

The movie also deals with depression and anxiety in a sensitive and quite real way. Ishida's fear of looking and opening himself to people is delivered in an artistically entrancing manner that precisely shows how he feels. Both Ishida and Nishimiya's depression come forward in different ways, but they are intense, and their struggles to overcome it are clear.

Beautiful and painful, A Silent Voice is a heartbreaking but still optimistic and hopeful look on life and the consequences we have to deal with for a long time, both from our actions and others'.

Great movie. Had no expectations regarding it and turned out to be amazing. The animation, music, story and all the feelings that come with it are one of a kind. It has been a while that an anime movie had me going through like this. I agree with has been commented before, this movie is an emotional rollercoaster but it's well worth it.

Best anime I have watched - beat my long time favourite of Berserk, the first thing I watched.

Cannot recommend this enough - very touching, best thing I have watched in my life so far.

Watch it, and do it now.

A fantastic gateway movie for those, who just picked up an interest in Japanese animation, wondering what's more to this genre than Ghibli and Shonen action anime.
A silent Voice is a great movie that tells the worth of animation, just as Satoshi Kon would say it, it has a freedom that is priceless and irreplaceable.

As someone who has suffered from depression, watching the experience of depression from a different perspective was insightful in better understanding my own past experiences. The story is emotionally touching, and the portrayal of depression and anxiety was flawless. I must've missed a lot of details because I was a bit lost in the plot and character relationships. Maybe I'll rewatch this movie.

This anime is so great and emotional and shows how both main characters have developed depression based on their own personal experiences. While the main guy was a bully to the main girl, the movie is able to make you want both characters to be happy by the end. The ending is also so well-earned throughout the amazing story not to mention the top-notch animation and directing.

rewatching Koe no Katachi for a second time after so many years was a great decision, noticing all the finer details and small things everywhere made me fall in love with this movie all over again, on top of that getting to hear the wonderful soundtrack again was sooooo worth it,

the way they directed that last scene at the School festival of Sho un-covering his ears, the surrounding noises / audio flowing back in, slowly but steadily, as he looks left and right with an expression of pure Awe, him slowly realizing that life is worth living, & that there's light at the end of this dark and horrid tunnel; there's always hope
the X's on everyone's faces falling down, then that Beautiful OST that plays, as it shows all of his friend's faces (new & old), they helped him get through this, he was never alone

so so so many details, and so very well executed, just like the scene where Nishimiya's mother apologizes, that scene was HEAVY.

i love this movie so so much

Gotta love those movies that just stomp all over your soul with Feels and deeply relatable emotions brought on by being young and stupid and not able to communicate and then continue to struggle with it when you're older and know what it's like to have regrets of choices made that you can't reverse but just learn to grow from them while trying to reach out despite the fears of being hurt by others.

Yep. Gotta love that shit.

Tears !! it's impossible to watch this movie without at least tearing up.. it's a masterpiece in animation and the story is also just perfect!
I read the manga a few years ago and this was a great adaptation

Beautifully animated film, with an emotional story that will resonate with anybody who ever went to high school (that's most of us then), and who was the victim/passerby/ or instigator of bullying. A quiet triumph, and a valuable lesson in tolerance.
