I liked this movie a lot more than I thought I would. I feared it would be a typical survival movie, one of those that tend to be long, drawn out and boring. Instead I was pleasantly surprised. The movie flows really well.
Alternating between the two timelines, before and after the storm hit, is a great idea. Moving from drama to romance keeps the movie from becoming too heavy for too long. At the same times, it gives the audience the chance to get to know the protagonists in a natural way, avoiding cheesy and awkward lines.
The two main actors were really great. I'd never seen a movie with Shailene Woodley before, but I have to say that she definitely has a lot of talent. Great performance, she really carried the whole film. Sam Claflin was also good. Even though he had less screentime than Shailene, he managed to perform a charismatic and believable character. The two of them had a nice chemistry, I hope to see them again in another movie.
The cinematography was superb. I don't know if they used CGI or some practical effect, but it looked amazing. Also, a lot of interesting shots that captured the vastness of the ocean and its charm.
In the end, it's a nice movie about human resilience, with nice storytelling and visuals. The story is nothing new but it is based on a true story and that makes it hit more. A nice mix of romance and drama.
8/10
I loved the "little" details at the start. The movie tells you right there that Richard is gone, but as you get entangled in the story, you forget that. You only realize slightly before Tami does. Gut-wrenching but brilliant. That's good storytelling to me
It's a solid movie. I liked the survival aspect much more than the romance. Shailene Woodley is great here. The editing between the two timelines was interesting and I thought worked well. The pacing was great, it didn't drag too much and didn't last too long. The cinematography on the boat scenes was really good especially the wreck itself.
I enjoyed this movie. The acting was superb, the writing was imaginative and captivating. The story is not quick paced but allowed the narrative to breath and flesh out the human experiences, so maybe not the best choice for action movie fans. As it is a story based on actual events, I found the exploration of human tenacity to be interesting. I give this movie a 7 (good) out of 10. [Thriller, Romance, Adventure]
Alright so I feel like this movie has managed to hit its mark but the flashbacks after the plot twist is revealed were unneeded you dont need to spoonfeed the audience everything. Other than that remark the acting was good, the chemistry couldve been better.
a sad story told in such a beautiful way. i like the concept of the timeline great chemistry between the actors. almost cried at the end but managed to not to.
Woodley and Claflin are left adrift by the weak and abbreviated script. I was never truly invested in the characters or their relationship, and so while I mean no disrespect to the real-life people on whom the story is based, I didn't care whether they lived or died in the movie.
Adrift is a good movie that delivers a compelling survival story with a solid performance from its actors. However, the plot may seem familiar to those who have seen similar films in the genre lately. Despite this, the movie manages to keep you engaged and invested in the characters' journey. One of the highlights is the cinematography that captures the beauty and danger of the ocean. The film's visuals are impressive and effectively convey the sense of isolation and vulnerability that the characters face.
They insulted Bob Ross, so i will give this film An happy mistake/10
Expected Ending but tho high performance from both of them
Good movie with great acting especially by Shailene Woodley.
The end of this flick totally blew me away
Film super. Perfectly. Very many dram.
I keep up: If people were to swim, they would have fins. ;)
The entire movie I kept thinking this is clearly a story told from a single perspective, one's made out to be the hero and one's not. Which made it not that interesting to watch. And after that "twist", somehow it took away from it's credibility. So I'm going to think of this movie as mostly fiction. Anyways, I would've liked it more if the story was told in a linear timeline. And I might be biased here, but despite not having much to do I thought Sam outshone Shailene in his performance. It's so subtle and so real. Tbh, better chemistry between them could've made the story leave a much stronger impact.
Movie isn't the fastest paced thing around, but thanks to having the timeline of following the storm and leading up to the storm, they could keep the pacing from becoming a slog. Just the same, this movie is a shrug of the shoulders for me. It was merely okay. 5/10

Well, I'm left feeling conflicted after watching the movie.
I didn't feel like Shailene and Sam had much chemistry, and the dialogue during their first few interactions was so cringey it made me low key uncomfortable. But by the middle of it, I was invested and wanted them to be okay, even though I was beginning to figure out Richard was probably just a hallucination and that he'd actually died. The food and water lasting as long as they apparently did was a big clue, and also the fact he seemed to be bleeding internally, and still, after more than two weeks he was, somehow, still alive.
By the point Tami let him go it was already pretty obvious he'd never been there in the first place, but it was still really heartbreaking.
I'm honestly incredibly impressed with the real life Tami. I couldn't imagine going through something like that and surviving and then ever setting foot on a boat ever again. She's truly a remarkable, resilient and fearless woman. Wow.
