The long awaited sequel to Tim Burton’s bold re-imagining of Lewis Carroll’s classic, Alice Through the Looking Glass is a convoluted mess...albeit a beautiful looking one. Having virtually nothing to do with the book, Alice returns to Wonderland and must travel back in time in order to save the Mad Hatter’s family, but Time follows suit and attempts to stop her. The plot is extremely contrived and makes absolutely no sense. And the characters feel quite different from the last film, and are far less compelling. Still credit has to be given to Danny Elfman for his incredible score and the art and effects departments for their extraordinarily creative designs. Yet while Alice Through the Looking Glass is full of exciting action and is a visual marvel, the story is garbage.
It wasn't the first one but it's a good movie with absolutely beautiful animations, almost flawless. There was a surprisingly wise lesson at the end which made things more wonderful than they already were.
It was a good storyline and it was easy to follow. The actors were marvelous. Johnny Depp can't stop surprising me, he is so talented. To be honest with you, the main reason I like this movie is the characters and the world they live in. It is all so magical, I love it. I liked the concept of the big clock and I actually really liked "Time". I felt like the trailers made him look like a bad guy, but really he was just trying to save everyone, not even kidding. Also, he had one hella good looking man-bun. Just pointing that out.
Alice Through the Looking Glass carries all the magic and beauty as well as a nice/quite easy going storyline. If you enjoyed the first one, you for sure are going to enjoy this one.
i'm really enjoyed more than the first one. But the movie take the basic of time travel adventure and put the same characters with no evolution at all.
I haven't read the original novel in nearly two decades, but this celluloid adaptation of Lewis Carroll's second Alice novel was a blast. There were so many twists and turns and so much action that I almost felt as if I was playing a video game instead. The plot kept me involved, and, all in all, I enjoyed this one; it was a fun diversion from a depressing situation I was facing at the time while I was watching it. While this sequel may have been a bit unnecessary, that didn't keep it from being good, clean fun, the kind we need more of these days.
A great sequel to the Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland film. Very unique (as all Tim Burton movies are.) And adds a modern twist to the traditional tale. You cannot beat the casting in this film: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, some of my absolute favourites. All so perfect for their roles. I loved how it have the backstory too of how the Queen got her large head, a question i've wanted answered since I saw the first movie.
As with the first film, this is visually impressive but it never quite grabbed me. Certainly not a bad film and am sure fans of the characters will get a lot from it. For me, my time down the rabbit hole is over. I urge Hollywood to seal the hole with concrete unless they can create something truly magical. BUT THEN....
I rewatched the film in 2018 and enjoyed it a lot more. For whatever reason, the film put a spell on me this time over, so why I wanted to concrete over Wonderland back in 2016 is anybody's guess. Perhaps I was as mad as a hatter! A sequel would be welcome, but I'm not sure where they would go with the story.
This is actually quite a nice sequel to the wonderful original film from 2010. Because it didn't try to tell a similar story again but instead built on the original story and expanded it in quite an interesting way. The cast is stellar as it was in the first film and also really liked the ending.
First Alice movie was great, enjoyable, funny, new... this one was a lot like being one extra couplet to a song which takes just a little bit too long. This movie should have not been made.
Alice saving Wonderland from the Jabawocky as well as returning to Wonderland is the Through the Looking Glass story pretty much in the previous film. Alice walking through a mirror to Wonderland in this film is pretty much the only faithful thing to the Through Looking Glass story.
Mia Wasikowska plays Alice again with ease so she isn't a problem with the film. The problem is despite having a decent time travel plot the movie is hardly the book.
Always a good watch this one.
Prima film, enkel gekeken voor Johnny.
Good movie Depp was great as always
Changed the director, changed the tone. It is readily apparent that Tim Burton is not behind this project, the colors are much brighter, there is a more childish tone to the plot as a whole, for example when whenever Absolem appears on screen, before guiding Alice until she go through the mirror, there is a sound of something magical, not that Alice's universe doesn't allow something like that, quite the opposite, but it's impossible not to make a comparison with its predecessor, denser and more adult than this one. Everything gets lighter and fun, even silly, but there is still a good reflection, now focused on Time. Even the film solves good gaps in the book, for example, as was the discussion between the Mad Hatter and Time, which made him stay forever at tea time. It's a good movie to pass the time, jokes aside. And the actors keep putting on a show in their roles, Anne Hathaway was divine as the White Queen and the Cheshire cat is cute in this movie, I love him in all versions!

Mudou o diretor, mudou o tom.
A step down from the 2010 film, but 'Alice Through the Looking Glass' is a solid film nonetheless.
I enjoyed seeing this plot, largely about time, play out. The film is CGI heavy, but does look great for the vast majority. The cast are good, with Mia Wasikowska leading well and surrounded by the likes of Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen.
I do think the film could've been slightly shorter, with better pacing and less emphasis on the 'real world' stuff featuring Alice. The looking glass entry isn't as interesting/magical as the rabbit hole, also.
Far superior to the 1998 adaptation of this 1871 Lewis Carroll novel, that's for certain.
The magic and wonder that was "Alice in Wonderland" is no where to be see in this shallow squeal that no one asked for.
Visually stunning however the set up and ending were weak, I thought.
With the first film basically a sequel in it’s own right. With the Jabberwocky already. There wasn’t much for this movie to use from the Through Looking Glass story.
Instead they came up with time travel. As well as a plot about family and the importance of it.
It’s visually stunning and kind of fun for a movie that exists for no good reason.
It's about the same as the first one. Looks great, the plot doesn't make much sense and Johnny Depp is annoying. I did like Sacha Baron Cohen's character.
It looks amazing, story itself.. sort of interesting?
Set in a Wonderland that works too much like the real world, Alice Through the Looking Glass is a long, boring fanfiction written to give a backstory to your favorite characters .
Being a big fan of the first movie, I should not have expected too much from the second one – unfortunately I did and was utterly disappointed. The plot was quite boring and the special effects were nice though did not help making a better movie – not even the great actors helped…
Interesting movie. Good visuals, as usual, with an element of time travel. Maybe too much focus on the Mad Hatter, seeing how this series has a preference in his character... But I digress. There were things about this movie that I prefer over the first and same vice versa. Not bad.
Over bloated CGI and padded runtime make this feel unwarranted
REALLY slow beginning. Trailer was much better than the movie. Too bad. Might have been better if Tim Burton produced and directed. Oh well, at least the special effects were fairly good.

I was surprised how much I liked this movie! I thought "Alice in Wonderland" was a weird, nearly incoherent movie. But "Through the Looking Glass" actually has a plot that you can follow the ENTIRE way through, and it's a fairly entertaining story involving regret, time-travel and family relationships. A lot of chuckle-worthy moments spread throughout, and it's great to hear Alan Rickman's voice one last time in a film.
I recommend this movie much more highly than the first Alice (perhaps due to the fact that Tim Burton is only a producer & not the director this time). It's family-friendly and visually impressive. And in my opinion, it's worth the extra $$ to see it in 3D for the time traveling sequences alone.
