All the Money in the World 2017

The ghost of Kevin Spacey will forever hang over this film.

This film has everything going for it. Beautiful cinematography by Dariusz Wolski. An engrossing score by Daniel Pemberton. Some wonderful performances from Michelle Williams, Romain Duris, Christopher Plummer and Charlie Plummer. But, the film just does not work. It feels shiny without any soul. It is a kidnapping film without thrill. It explores greed without substance. It is long, overbearing and in the end serviceable as a film, but not very entertaining. Mark Wahlberg is horribly miscast in his role and Scott could have done better there.

As for the Kevin Spacey thing, if I had not known about the history of the production of this film, I would not have even suspected the late recasting of his role to Christopher Plummer.

I will not watch this movie, but i want to give my two cents to it.

Maybe Mister Plummer is better than Kevin Spacey.
Maybe this Cast fits more.
Maybe Kevin Spacey has to be punished.

But the way Ridley Scott is just totally hypocrite. The way of editing a finished (!) movie, just to cut out an actor is just nonsense.

Would it be hard to advertise this movie? Yeah, but this was the way the movie was made. It's not the same, but similar to George Lucas StarWars-Postediting. It's just confusing as hell to edit a finished (!) movie.

Hate me for my words, but this is what i think.

If you think different about it, please! tell me. I am interessed in your opinion.

I loved the movie, and Christopher Plummer was great, however, the whole time he was on screen I couldn't help but envision Kevin Spacey in his place. I wish I could have seen that version of this movie.

I'm all for quality dramatizations of true stories. Something interesting & true will generally beat out something interesting & fictional. But, something interesting & partially true, while being too fictional, becomes the least enjoyable of these categories, for me. It's like, you want to hold on to being absorbed by the appeal that only a true story can provide, but if it goes too far with fictional aspects, the appeal is almost completely lost. An example of this in another movie is the police chase of the airplane at the end of Argo. If that had really happened - wow - amazing. Instead, it comes across as almost an insult to your intelligence. All the Money in the World is visually stunning with it's directing and depicted time period, sophisticated - until Mark Wahlberg shows up, trying to act sophisticated - and the basics of the story are fascinating, but as a result of its over-embellishment, I felt stuck in limbo between relishing a fascinating historical event & characters, and just enjoying something made for entertainment. Worth watching.

It's a good film. Not the best, but good. Michelle Williams gives her best in the role of the victim's mother and the cinematography is great in my opinion.

I'ma fraid I found this an average film at best. Lacked almost everything. Couldn't wait for it to end!

It's an interesting dissection of the cost and the effect wealth has on a not only a person but moreso a family. Everyone is solid enough in it, though I'm more interested in seeing what Spacey did with the material. It also runs a little too long.

Unfortunately way too long. The story and idea is really good but unfortunately it takes so long for everything to unfold, that we didn't enjoy it was much in the end…

Solid performances from an excellent cast Well written fictionalized events around the Getty kidnapping. Michelle Williams was brilliant as usual in a very different role for her. There was nothing last minute about Christopher Plummer who brought all his considerable stage presence to the role. I give this movie a 7 (good) out of 10, although the acting was an 8 and 9. [Fictionalized History, Thriller, Drama].

Will undoubtedly get great Oscars buzz but one of the weaker entries in this year's race. Interesting, but without love or a soul. 6/10

Decent enough drama. This is not the top tier Ridley Scott but its worth a watch. After they recast Christopher Plummer 6 weeks before the film's release I thought he wouldn't have more than a glorified cameo. I was shocked at the amount of scenes he actually had and how great he was.

All the most valuable parts were those that really happened, but when the film decided to romanticise, it looked fake and cheap. (Remember the chase scene at the end of Argo?)
Btw, hats off to Christopher Plummer who made me wonder if Kevin Spacey could've done a better job as John Paul Getty.
