How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

Spy movies are often hard to grasp in the beginning stages due to the 900 characters that get introduced in the first few minutes. After that, the plot became quite interesting. Chris Pine isn't really one of my favorites, but he held his own across from the amazing Thandiwe Newton. I liked it! I'd watch it again. 3/5 for the interesting plot, and a half-star for Newton.

The good stuff:
** The chemistry between Pine and Newton was positive, and the sex scenes were pretty hot.
** The twist was neither crazy, nor given away too early. The ending was very logical.
** Some spy movies get too convoluted to watch. This one was laid out pretty well.
** This came in at a pretty tight 102 minutes; not a lot of useless stuff added.

The bummers:
-- Why have Laurence Fishburne in this movie if you're not going to use him much?
-- Without spoiling it much, I figure the terrorists didn't act as expected. Maybe that's not much of a bummer, but in one particular case, if a guy screws a terrorist over, he'll probably get killed.

A was definitely bored and although I tried so hard, I lost nerves and stopped 10 min before the end. It is just talking and talking, and that monotonous tone was slowly killing me. In pain. Do not recommend! Bad movie.

Very overrated and boring movie...

It's mostly classified as the action/thriller movie type, but there has been literally 0 action and 0 thriller (I'm not joking on this one), so completely misleading and overall the movie was really boring and hard to follow...

So ended up waiting for something to happen and nothing ever did...

There is a lot to like about this movie: it is nice to look at and there are some actors giving some very good performances. I think the resolution was excellent - when the movie ended I thought about the final few scenes for a while. I wanted to love the movie but I never quite got there. Part of the reason for this might be because much of the movie is flashbacks and that takes some of the "thrill" out of "thriller". It's a fine movie but not one of the year's best.

It got good at the end, everything before was a bit slow. I liked the multiple twists at the end. Wasn't expecting that, but the failsafe shooter at the end saying he needed a yes and didn't get anything because the guy was dying was a plothole to me. That didn't add up correctly because why would the shooter just walk away from that.

This was a solid, twisty, podcast-on-film suspense drama that I thought punched far above its weightclass considering the scope of the production. It's predictable to some degree, sure, but it still had the pacing, breadcrumb trail and slow reveal that I enjoy in a good suspense-driven drama. Not fantastic, but far above average.

As much as i enjoy slow, talkative atmospheric movies, i found myself listening to a podcast about 40 minutes into this one. I did enjoy some of the scenery though.

Started off with a lot of promise and ended with nothing happening. The ending was obvious pretty early, the flashbacks did nothing, and nothing happened. There were so many places this could have gone but the plot was just left to collapse on its on. I don't even need to hide anything due to its being a spoiler because there's absolutely nothing to spoil.
I like Pine, Newton, Pryce, and Fishburne but there wasn't anything for any of them to do nor was there any attempt made to flesh out their charactors.
I really can't comprehend any reason why anyone would want to be in this movie or, more to the point, why make this movie at all?
I gave it a five for the four actors and the promising start. After rereading my comment, I think I'm going to drop my rating even more!

Not the sharpest knife in the drawer

A twisty spy thriller that is sometimes too talky and convoluted for its own good. The cast are good, however, and they do much to maintain interest when things become a little dry.

Slow, just too slow to be enjoyable.

The plot unfolds in the second half and the twists are well contained.

As well shot as it is, it lacks any real action or real thrills. It's too pedestrian.

As I am watching this movie, I am despising Chris Pine

Unarguably one of the best movies of 2022. It has no flaws. Perfect ending. But it is one of those to each his own type. I watch a lot of movies and tv shows. "Wow that was great" is somewhat scarce these days. For me this was one of them in a long time. Extremely long time I must say.

This is just one big boring and tedious depressive love story covered in a spy sauce.
Watch it if you love depressive drama, else just stay very far away from this.

I think I’ve become weary movies and series depending on nudity and sex to keep an audience’s attention, or to make up for weak writing. This movie had a premise with a mystery, which I figured out very close to the beginning, so, I watched until the end only for confirmation. Once I solved the mystery , the rest was just a lot of smoke and mirrors. Thandiwe Newton is an exceptional actor, and her performance in this was nuanced and everything you would expect from her. However, I’m not sure that is enough to recommend the movie. It takes a lot of slow twists and turns to get to where it was always heading. I give this film a 6 (fair) out of 10. [Thriller?]

I finally at least read the blurb/premise-description for this movie and from that I then instantly envisioned a genre-standard/cliche scene as a part of this movie (i.e., a scene where the spy-hero's female love interest finally betrayingly turns a gun on the male protagonist and reveals the secret half of the story that the protagonist has thus-far been acting incognizant of), and I became preemptively jaded and became somewhat annoyed that this might be boring and not be a good candidate for me in spite of my wanting to see some more Thandie Newton.
…So, without explicitly stating whether my presumption regarding the plot pattern was right: from what I've shared, do you think I should avoid spending time watching this?

For what it tells, it is very slow and gives a lot of twists and turns with flashbacks, sometimes repeated several times.

This is one hell of an engaging tension filled thriller. To the very end. Both leads are superb, and the duplicity, is startling. A very enjoyable film.

A very interesting plot and filming for a spy movie as it essentially takes place in setting as two former colleagues/lovers reminisce about an old case and flashbacks occur to tell the story. It certainly keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat as one of the former colleagues is investigating the other on a re-opened case and just as the viewer might have thought they know who the culprit is the story flips. A lot going on as it is a spy film, but not too hard to follow. Yes the filming could have been better but the acting was good and the story was fantastic.

Some would call this a slow-burner movie, but it's more like a candle about to extinguish burner. It plods along with an interesting if what VERY slow unraveling of who was the mole in the CIA 8 years previously. I guessed it within 5 minutes, but not why (watch the movie to understand why).

It's a very low-key quiet movie - literally quiet with no action, but it's worth watching.
8/10

First half is slow, but it gets much better to the end. M
