In a radio interview I once heard Michael Madsen detail his decision process for picking movies. The hosts of the show went through his last several movies and Madsen explained why he accepted a role in each film. In most cases it was because he needed the money - house payments, etc. I wonder what he was offered to appear in this film for the five minutes that he was on screen. Worse, he played a caricature of himself.
Anyway, indie films are hit and miss and this one was more miss than hit. There was some interesting growth in the male lead but that moments were few and far between. The film really struggled when it came time to introduce new characters or experiences - at times the dialogue with the often-cartoonish people was painful.
