American Son 2019

The film can't quite escape its stage origins, and there are times when its points are made in a less than subtle way. However, it's well acted, and there is still power in the message it tries to conveys.

Although this film adaptation can not quite breakaway from its award winning Stage Play origins, it's intentions are well-founded and thought provoking. All character performances are strong, but as a single scene ensemble piece, it can't quite avoid treading on some very stereotypical tropes. Depending on an individuals world-stage experiences, you could be forgiven for not totally understanding a lot of the subtext and it's emotional connections to real-world issues that simply do not plague some members of society.

It's dark ending is refreshing; as real-life doesn't always end in silver-linings and personally, I didn't see it coming. My final thoughts are that American Son could very much be used as a teaching aid for sociology classes. It's controversial subject matter is likely to provoke polarised views and topical debate amongst diametrically opposed cultures.

Absolutely bloody awful. A film about racist attitudes that totally caricatures all involved. The hick cop. The beaten down black woman. Her white? husband. The hardened been there done that black cop. All involved in the story of the poor rich mixed race boy who doesn’t know who he is meant to be. It really is this bad.

A BLM propaganda with massive stereotipes.

It's definitely an alarm for people or at least for me. The ending hit me hard because you can't be aware of what will happen to someone who you just talked to or had an argument with. Maybe it will be the last time ever that the two of you talked, (or in this case) argue and you can't change the past to not say things you've already said or to say something nice you've never said to the person but you wanted to.

I barely watched the movie. Although the subject that it tackles may be well founded, the movie is too straightforward about the race card up to the point that after 5 minutes it's like I'm looking at Jordan Peterson's famous meme. You can't escape the racist stigma. White people suck, and all they want to relay is the fact that every white person hates black people. It's absurd. I've lost 1.5 hours of my life that no one will give me back. It's almost as worse as Crank 2. By the end of the movie I'm actually rooting for the "whites" just because it seems that the script was written by someone that thinks that yelling louder makes you right.
