Think Twin Peaks mixed with Flight of the Conchords and you are almost there. More mainstream than the director's last film, The Greasy Strangler, but only just, this is an offbeat, weird delight, packed with characters I loved spending time with. An evening with Beverly Luff Linn? Yes please; if only we could spend more time together!

I feel ashamed of even watching this thing till the end. I kept telling myself, "It's boring for a reason, any minute now there will be a twist and everything will make sense and be funny". Well there isn't a twist it's just boring and senseless till the end.

"You look more like a dog than a dog does."

With An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn, director Jim Hosking delivers a more polished film than his The Greasy Strangler but the humor is still drier than a vodka martini with gin instead of vermouth.

This time around, though, Hosking was smart enough to afford Aubrey Plaza (who always chooses the coolest projects) , Craig Robinson (Darryl in the American Office) and Jemaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords.

He also brought back the incredible Sky Elobar, who starred in The Greasy Strangler and gets Hosking's sense of humor better than anyone else.

Better especially than Emile Hirsch who literally ruins this movie with a performance so over the top he can't breathe for the lack of oxygen. Basically, the entire movie is Hirsch telling a joke that he himself doesn't get.

Beverly Luff Linn is mildly amusing, but ends up as little more than a wasted opportunity.

I'm honestly shocked at how unwatchable this film is considering the cast involved. Aubrey Plaza, Jemaine Clement, Craig Robinson, Matt Barry, (a brief cameo from) Maria Bamford, Emile Hirsch... yet it's beyond awful. If you told me that the director gave the cast a loose script and then told the cast that he'd give a million dollars to the most unwatchable performance... I'd believe you. It's the only way to explain how truly this film slogs. It's woodenly acted, full of dialogue that's just odd, presented as quirky just for randomness' sake, and rarely compelling or funny. I'm at a true loss. I haven't felt I've wasted my time this intensely in quite some time.

A waste of a lot of great comedic talent.

Twin Peaks if Twin Peaks made any less sense. I loved it. I have no idea what the hell I just watched but I loved it. I think if I wasn’t sober it woulda been even better.

Very disappointing given the cast

I enjoyed this film more on a 2nd viewing than I did on the first. It has cult film following potential.

Really good - humor and acting style similar to Wes Anderson.
