normally a horror movies slowly builds up and we get 10/20 minutes max of horror but not this one. this is non stop tension, never a dull moment.
Scary good movie with lots of suspense and creepy moments.
Tip: Stay for the entire end credits.
"Annabelle: Creation" is probably my favorite horror movie of all time. It's incredibly creepy, and that doll is absolutely terrifying. The addition of children to the storyline adds a whole new level of spookiness. The subtle movements and head turns of the doll, along with eerie background actions, keep you on the edge of your seat. The storyline and cast are top-notch, making it a truly chilling and memorable horror experience. :ghost::clapper:
I think I liked it a little better than the first one. I prefer stories that involves horror in common things and not just jumpers with a lot of make-up or CGI. This movie has both, but the story is entertaining, and I liked how it was linked to the original.
The second Annabelle film is a clear improvement over its dull predecessor. Director David F. Sandberg obviously knows a thing or two about his craft. The film is competently directed throughout and has a few exciting moments. Sandberg also obviously had a pretty decent handle on working with the child actors, as they all do a decent job. This also ensures that you sympathize with the children. However, the film does have a few noticeable lags, especially in the first half. And, for the most part, the scary moments are predictable, with the Annabelle doll not being scary at all. She looks creepy, but it's simply nothing more than that. Overall, "Annabelle: Creation" is a thoroughly solid horror film, but it never rises above mediocrity.
All the ways the demon materialized in this movie are impressively scary :ok_hand: Can't wait to see how the story chains with the other movies of The Conjuring Universe sequel.
All the critiques are valid and yet when I put this on as background noise thinking it'd be a bad scary movie, I was so pulled in that I turned my video game off and gave it my full attention.
The child actors are incredible and there were so many memorable scenes. I agree with another reviewer that, unfortunately, these did not come together properly to tell a cohesive story. It's sad to think this could've been a 10-star movie if they had! Still, I had fun and it held my attention so it gets a good rating from me!
The sound engineer, however, should be Annabelle's next target.
Great build, great atmosphere and David F Samdberg is an all around king, well worth a spooky season watch, dripping with pumpkin spice vibes.
A scary little girl (again), a haunted doll (again), and yet another spooky well. There are certainly no new ideas in "Annabelle: Creation" but son of a gun, it was pretty effective. Even the jump scares, which I normally hate, seemed appropriate. The house was a spooky place and the choice of not showing the doll walking around was smart. The actresses playing the two youngest girls, Janice and Linda, were quite good.
There were some things that really bugged me, though. With all of the people in the house, why were so many solo scares? How did no one else hear the screaming? Especially Janice's encounter with the soul-seeking demon on the staircase. Janice screams as an evil entity pushes her wheelchair across the yard and into a shed. Yet everyone hears her screaming from inside the shed but not as she is yelling in the yard, out in the open, where the other girls are. There seemed to be a lack of attention to details at times.
"Annabelle: Creation" has some good scares and its got a limited amount of gore. It's rated 'R' and that surprised me. It's a decent haunted house story without excessive bloodletting.
The biggest disappointment was the lack of a payoff for the scarecrow tease. Scarecrows are scary.

I'd have to say this is my favorite movie from The Conjuring franchise. The children are believable in both writing and acting and overall are quite likeable characters (excluding the 2 who get noticeably less screen-time and are less developed.) They succeed in making the Annabelle doll quite scary and this film has a few of my favorite creepy moments in the franchise including:
- The "doll" walking beneath the blanket after Janice throws a one over Annabelle, eventually revealing nothing beneath the blanket
- Janice('s wheelchair) being rolled into the barn/workshop by a dark-faced nun
- Linda nearly getting pulled into the well after attempting to dispose of the doll
- Bee transforming into a tall demon in front of her mother (in a flashback)
Overall I really like this film and is the stand-out of the series in my opinion.
More horror then the first one, this movie makes a connection with the first movie, how janice get this doll Annabelle.
This movie gave me a revelation. About movie-making. Both in a good way and a bad way. On one side of the coin, you now have studios like Blumhouse and Rat-Pac making decent competent horror movies that will satisfy audiences, as opposed to the shit that was being churned out for the last few years. But on the other side of the coin, they're not doing anything super unique or original. You always have to have child actors, you have to have the priest, you have to have a demon, you have to have this old secluded house where people move in, and etc. It's not automatically bad or lazy to use these tropes, but only if they're done with a unique style. And the problem is, I've seen a TON of movies lately use these common ingredients. I liked Ouija: Origin of Evil, but again in that, there was a demon possession, a priest, and house with a dark history to it. I get that doing this is safe and people will go to see it, but I'm hoping directors like David F. Sandberg and other people working with Rat-Pac try to move away from these plot threads. I don't know how much longer I can stand studios think they can get away with using this story over and over. That goes for you too Blumhouse.
Sorry, that was something I had to write down, because I started thinking about it a little more towards the end of this movie. In general, I start to know how I'm going to rate a movie when I reach a certain point. And I knew then how I thought of this Annabelle: Creation. It's safe. It works, but it's safe, and I don't know if I like that or not. I'm a huge fan of older horror pieces and B-movie-esque grindhouse, and it's a little sad directors and executives aren't trying to push the envelope.
But with everything out of the way, this on it's own isn't bad. It's pretty good. The child actresses all do a great job with the script they're given and I believed I was watching actual children interact with one another, which is a problem sometimes with kids. Lulu Wilson, who already starred in Ouija: Origin of Evil, gives another solid performance, and I want to see what else she does with the horror genre, if she decides to keep acting in it. I would love to see a The Exorcist-eque movie with her getting possessed. I believe she could pull off a Linda Blair. But in this, she isn't the one who gets taken over by a demon, but still perseveres and gives us a great scared child acting job. Talitha Bateman, who acts opposite Wilson and the two of them are like bonded sisters, she especially delivers an exceptionally dreary and depressing performance. She's crippled with polio and spends most of the movie in a wheelchair or walking with a support. And what I liked about this facet, is that it wasn't a tacked-on sub-plot or sob story; her condition plays into some of the scares. In one scene, she uses the automatic moving chair thing on the staircase to get away from the demon that's coming closer to her. The chair makes it's way down, but stops and malfunctions half-way down. Then the chair starts to go back up, and the demon is waiting for her right at the top and there's nothing she can do about it. If she didn't have the condition, she could've just ran out of the house. But little touches like that can make for a richer story. It's also why the girls are surprised later when she can walk fine, because she's taken over. Another great scene was in the barn with one of the older girls, played by Grace Fulton, when the demon takes over a scarecrow and slowly unscrews the lightbulbs in fixtures to turn off the lights. I don't know why the demon would care about something trivial like light-fixtures, but I guess you could say because the demon is used to being shut-in the darkness, so whatever. It was a nice set-up.
And this re-telling leads me to one of the bigger pros and cons with the movie. Each of these scary sequences are great, well-done little pieces, but as a whole feature, doesn't really flow well. There isn't a lot of super big tension built up or a looming threat that lurks over the picture. In one scene, Wilson is terrified beyond belief as the doll and the demon have made their way into her room and the bed underneath her bunk-bed. But then, the scene ends, she falls asleep, and it's the next day. Next we see her, she's happily playing with the other girls. Are we not going to talk about what just happened there? And that's my only big problem with this. David F. Sandberg started out doing short horror movies and that seems to be his expertise. These are great little scenes, but don't complement one another always in the larger scope of it all. However, the movie does get really good towards the end, when the demon goes all out on the girls. It was nice to see something quite grand and on an ambitious scale. A lot of times with these movies, the finale is just a small group of people trying to get out of a house and there's a couple jumpscares there and here. But Sandberg decides to throw in everything he can. The demon teleports all over the place and gets at the different separated groups of kids. Scarecrow in the barn? Check. Creepy adventures in the basement? Check. Car won't start? Check. Hiding in the doll room? Check. I know all that sounds very cliche, but it's done rather unique, as it's not the same person who experiences all of it.
But I think I've rambled on long enough. It's a little funny seeing how these origin prequel horror movies end up being better than the originals they're based off of. Now people are going to go watch the first Annabelle and remember just how fucking terrible it is. But I am a little worried about the state of horror movies. I liked this, it was good, I had fun watching it, but I want to see more come out of this genre. I don't really want to see the same plot threads being copied over and over. If you just want to see a fun horror movie to share with friends or family, you'll definitely get a kick out of this, I recommend it. However, as massive fan of this genre, I want more.

A marked improvement over the first installment in the Annabelle franchise in every single way. Better setting, better performances and (most importantly) a much deeper, fleshed out origin for the titular doll. Much like Marvels torrent of yearly comic book cinema, Annabelle Creation cleverly ties into the first entry of the franchise, while leaving breadcrumbs for other entries in the Conjuring universe, with an after credits scene to boot!
Still very much a summer-popcorn-horror movie with all the tropes that entails, but a better realised one that offers more than most yearly entries of the genre can muster. To give a very specific analogy, Annabelle Creation is to Annabelle what Ouija: Origin of Evil is to Ouija; a large upheavel in quality, but still a big produciton horror at it's core. Good, but doesn't hold a candle to other movies that are driving the genre forward (Hereditary, The Witch, Midsommar etc)
I think it was good enough. No intense scenes. It wasn't scary at all. It got my attention the whole length of the movie, the cinematography definitely helped with my short attention span. haha! though I feel like the story didn't peak at all. Like it was just steadily going. Janice though, she's all to blame. lol.
Evil comes home in the horror thriller Annabelle: Creation. The story follows a group of orphaned girls who are taken in by an elderly couple, and before long the girls awaken a demonic spirit that attempts to possess them. The pacing is a little slow until the last act, which then ratchets up the tension and suspense, building to a terrifying climax. And while it follows the series formula, it still does a pretty good job at delivering frightening shocks and scares. Also, the writers are able to work the plot into the larger Conjuring continuity surprising well (avoiding a lot of pitfalls that prequels usually run into). While it has some pacing issues and contradicts some of the previous mythology, Annabelle: Creation is a solid entry into the series.
It will make you jump. The downside is the talking is very quiet and the music and action scenes are loud as hell. We enjoyed it.

Unfortunately, this film had a much greater potential... it is much better than the first Annabelle movie, first of all the story is more interesting, although not great. One of the things that I hate in any movie is when after an hour or so one of the characters explain the whole story in a few sentences, that way the mystery aspect is lost. Also, this was a JUMP-SCARE-FEST, and, for me, that is just lazy writing. But, we did have some great parts, actually two short but great and scary scenes in the second part of the movie...and of course Lulu Wilson is just great, I loved her in Ouija 2 also. This movie did gave us some answers for the first Annabelle movie, so that is a plus too. Anyway 6/10 from me. If you are a horror fan, and you like creepy dolls, go and check it out :D
Superior to the trashy original, this is a decent horror flick that has a fairly original setting. Good to see a cameo from the 'actual' Annabelle too, the rag doll, not the fictionalised porcelain thing.
What a load of fucking crap. Though it succeeded at making it more interesting then the horribly dull first one, I am so disappointed that the story held itself so bland. The only thing keeping me attracted were the amazingly beautiful shots. Such gorgeous cinematography with such a shitty held story. I watched this in theatres and it was so bad, people were actually laughing during scenes and some left the movie, which is probably what I should have done 30 minutes into the film with nothing interesting happening yet.
Horror movies are meant to scare. This didn't do shit to anyone in theatres that night I watched it. 4/10. Maybe it would bump up to a five for the nice cinematography but storyline wise and acting wise... really bland, slow, and kept it's "horrific" scenes as jump scares, that technically you see coming.

Just got back from an advance screening! Had a blast!
A group of girls go to an orphanage where the evil doll is locked up. Pretty soon bad things start to happen. That is the plot in a nutshell.
The film is essentially a bunch of jump scares, but there are a lot of them and the film never takes itself seriously for one second. It knows its job is have fun with a devil doll and that mood really help sells the jump scares.
The plot makes no sense... the big reveal is that the doll is possessed by an evil spirit? Really? Who would have known!
In many ways it reminded me of F13 part I with 8 year olds instead of teenagers. The younger girls really steal the show - they were great.
The film had a strange drive-in movie vibe. Hard to pinpoint it, but I felt like I was in a drive-in watching the movie. Weird.
The key to enjoying this film is to watching it with a packed house. There was almost a 'rocky-horror show' response to some scenes "don't open that door!!" that REALLY added to the enjoyment.
Nothing was REALLY scary, though. More fun, than scares. People clapped and laughed because we were really enjoying the film's jump scares... Can't remember the last time I felt that. We all clapped at the end - not many films I can make that claim for.
That said, anyone expecting a REALLY scary movie, 3 dimensional characters, re-inventing the genre, etc... will be sorely disappointed.
This is a haunted house movie that is fun seen with a crowd.
I can't imagine seeing this alone at home. I plan on getting this on blu-ray so I will see!

Definitely my favorite of the Annabelle films! Only second best to The Conjuring (which connected to the doll, not the whole story). Very suspenseful, would watch it again. The acting was great, I love seeing how films are bringing child stars out more in thriller/horror films.
i loved it, loved the cast and how they played their parts. at the end it got confused because i really didn't expect it to end like that but the credit scene made sense. to me this one is better than the first one although this one is obviously a prequel.anyway i loved it, got me on the edge of my seat.
First movie about Annabelle for me. Was quite scary at times but somehow not fully convincing – I'm not sure what bugged me about the movie… somehow it wasn't that captivating and a lot was just not believable, how people react…

Lulu Wilson deserves some thanks for prequels to bad movies like Ouija and Annabelle being better. She's a talented kid. Deserves better than a Cop and a Half made for DVD sequel to a awful movie. I am sure she is good in it though.

Anabellen creattion will for sure make the fans of the Conjuring series very happy. Its for sure my new favorite movie of the franchise, along with The Conjuring 1. The original story of Anabelle is very good and the movie has a non stop sequence of twists and scenes that will make you jump on your chair. Sandberg is really a great director of the genre and its great to see how powerful are the young actresses. Lulu and Talitha are the power force of the movie! For sure a brilliant addition to the franchise.
Another instalment in The Conjuring spin-off franchise. Annabelle: Creation provides some good scares and delivers a performance similar to that of The Conjuring. A movie for fans of the franchise and those new to it but fans can appreciate the subtle and not so subtle tie-ins of the franchise.
You've seen it all before, it's overly reliant on overused horror tropes, and the characters are quite dumb (which in itself is an overused horror trope), but, it's effective and accomplishes what it sets out to do.
You are my sunshine, my little sunshine has a lovely ring to it... made the film look innocent mwhahaha! Well this film topped the first by far, and that Annabelle as nothing on this Annabelle. The effects were great, good picture, female cast were spot on, and great plot but poor ending thought... It was all over the place.. but guess it was leading up to the first that was poor anyways ha It's good to know the back story of Annabelle, and more of the story of the franchise. I don't think it lived up to the conjuring's by James wan, worth your time thought.
Amazing! Great tension throughout the whole movie. Acting was really good. If you can watch it with Dolby Atmos sound, do it. It scared the sh*t out of me sometimes :).
And stay during the credits, and I mean the whole credits!

Much better than the first Annabelle film! The plot was a much better storyline, and the girls really hold their own acting out their parts! Very tense at moments too, had me anxious as to what was to come next!
