that twist. i did not see it coming...

loading replies

Incredibly boring and drawn out. Poorly acted and a weak script. Takes far too much influence from I Am Mother and Ex Machina without exploring its own story. Everyone talking about the twist at the end making it an amazing movie, well I don't believe you should have to sleep through 90 minutes of tedious dialogue just for one interesting plot point.
Give this one a miss.

Wow. That was amazing.

What a great twist of an ending.

Ugh,the twist at the ending kind of made the rest of the movie pointless for me, I mean I want to feel sorry for J1 and J2 but now that I know they never really existed, I can't. The ending made the entire movie feel like it never even mattered whether or not George succeeded nor did the way he treated J2 have any consequence

Ignore those on this page who call this movie slow and boring. While it's not an action-packed sci-fi flick, it is certainly never dull. It's actually quite moving - there are moments that are achingly sad - so if you're after something thoughtful and a little surprising, this is one to put in your archive!

Do yourself a favour and just watch this. Avoid all comment sections, and come back later.

Dripping with a cyberpunky, Sci-fi, synthy aesthetic, Archive is a great mystery thriller with style and substance. Definitely one on my rewatch list for any hidden meaning or detail I missed on my first go.

Wow! It’s rare for a film to render me completely speechless, but this one did just that.

“Archive” is a visually stunning and emotionally moving film. The set design is immersive and transports the viewer into the world of the story. Theo James delivers his best performance yet. The film does an excellent job of telling its story through visuals rather than relying on heavy dialogue, which adds to its impact.

The little interactions with the robots were exceptional; I’ve never seen anything close to it on the main screen. The robot’s ability to convey such depth of emotion despite its lack of human facial characteristics is remarkable. Very few films do it so convincingly, so props to the director and the VFX crew.

My major criticism is the film’s runtime. At times, the story feels drawn out, and a tighter, shorter runtime would have improved the overall pacing. Unfortunately, most people have missed the deeper layers in this film, as at least the ratings portray. Nevertheless, “Archive” is a must-see for fans of science fiction.

Archive (2020): 7.0/10 (Good)

It kept me engaged and despite my best predictions I definitely didn't see the end coming.
I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I have seen much more worse AI films with boring long talks and stares but this is not one of them.Actually it is a watchable nice AI movie.
Some people mention the twist but it was too obvious. I was expecting any minute. anyway, nice movie

Sloppily written. Entirely predictable from the first 10 minutes, even the twist at the end, especially if you've watched Stay , Moon , Vanilla Sky , Infinity Chamber or the anime series Time of Eve and Ghost in The Shell: SAC .
It would've worked better, thematically, if all the prototypes had killed themselves (J1 in the rain seemingly as an accident, J2 as she did, and J3 with the gun at the end) so that this limbo could be a learning experience (of letting go) for George before finally receiving his last call.
In terms of visuals, it leans too heavily on Ex Machina , I Am Mother , Ghost in The Shell and panders to the cliched cyberpunk aesthetic (Japan, neon lights, Lotus Esprit etc.). No originality in the creative vision.

I didn’t think a story about artificial intelligence could be so heartbreaking. If you aren’t willing to be emotionally invested in this film then don’t bother to start it. It has a good premise and some interesting themes. The acting is solid. I give this film a 7 (good) out of 10. [SciFi, Thriller, Drama]

[Sitges FF] The consciousness of the robot. The unconsciousness of the human being. An isolated space that provokes dreams of encounters between life and death. Android jealousy. A story that connects with others in the analytical view of the relationship between Human Being and AI. An intelligent staging, which is revealed in its precision when the end comes. Here it is the electric sheep that dream of androids.

One of my fave types of film genres is low budget SciFi. This is a masterclass in that in a lot of respects. Great writing and directing. I'm also a sucker for enhanced anthropomorphic robots. Great work by James and Martin. If you haven't seen this yet, avoid too many reviews and dive in. It does feel a bit sluggish at the halfway point but picks up in the final third with an excellent finale.
7.4 for me. Very solid.

It's good movie about how AI built another robots and that ending twist is something

Who is this dude that can make a robot but doesn't put a tracker on them?

7.5/10 - It explains very little but it was actually quite interesting. Unfortunately it's somewhat slow at times and can be a bit depressing but the latter seems unavoidable with that topic. At least J3 also brought some life and joy into it.

I think this is a nice novel take on mind "uploading" and AIs. It brings up some interesting thoughts and concepts. Just one example is J2's suicide while J1 didn't do that.

The nature/snow visuals where really beautiful IMO. I didn't really like the mixed in retro technology though but it's ok.

The ending did really mess with me. I already had a lot of questions but now I have way more...
Tbh I wished for a happier ending but I wasn't really surprised.

I certainly have to read some other reviews and analyses on this complex movie.

truthful twist. female will always broke your life. as a tip, don't pick up the phone after brake up.

It seemed like an average sci-fi AI movie until - the end - I did not see that coming until it hit me in the face.

This is one of the biggest twist in the history of movies. I did enjoy it

This sci-fi flick balances all facets perfectly while getting you emotionally invested to an unexpected degree. It delves deep into philosophical themes of existence, morals and love, without giving an ultimate resolve.

OMG this movie is SOOOOOOO drawn out....

If I would have slept through half of it, I wouldn't have missed any key points.

Excellent Sci Fi movie. A little slow in some way, but what a twist at the end. Didn't see that coming. Felt sorry for J2 as well. Overall a good idea and a great movie to watch. Remember, slow paced but the ending is worth the wait. :clap_tone1::thumbsup_tone1:

A love child of Ex-Machina and Upgrade. Visually stunning. Great score. Written and directed well enough.

I didn't think that a decent Sci-Fi flick could be made in 2020. Guess I was wrong. I am looking forward to whatever Gavin Rothery has to offer next.

Ever notice that future travel has less safety precautions than we do in the present?
Where were the airbags? Where were the seat belts?
Just sayin'.

So board I fell asleep. Woke up and fought my way through the snooze fest. To see yet another shitty fucking ending. Kiss my ass Hollywood. Monkeys could write better crap.

this one is really boring. no sci-fi vibe. No dialogues. The actors are pretty bad. I do not recommend this movie, just go your way and don't waste time

George is a real douche. He treats J2 so poorly. It's heartbreaking that he would create a sentient robot and then treat her so poorly. He treats J3 better, but in the end much worse. He really is a prick. No loss in the end.

The twist wasn't really a twist if you were paying attention throughout the movie. There were hints, like the car, that we weren't watching reality. The wife's archive just didn't make sense. Did he disregard his wife's wishes after saying her wouldn't? The company was paying for it, but then letting the technicians onto the property was a breach of the NDA? So how was it set up in the first place? Also, the technicians themselves didn't make sense with saying it was functioning properly when it obviously wasn't. And then they just leave after discovering the archive was tampered with? So many little things that added up to him already being dead and the one in the archive.

The first 80 minutes, I was like 'huh yea this guy is kinda stupid with his AI' but then, everything just made sense.

loading replies

According to Hollywood, every AI is created by its engineer's dead partner... Very lifeless movie with laughably predictable final twist.

loading replies

Archive?

As Indie #SciFi goes it's right up there with Moon.
It's a bit slow and sometimes predictable, but you have to hang in there for the twist at the end...

Ex Machina meets The Sixth Sense - all the time he was dead. However, just watch these two instead and for Stacy Martin - Nymphomaniac: Vol. I. All movies above I've rated higher than this one, they were more creative.

loading replies

i'm gonna quote one of the best characters in Bojack "That's Too Much, Man!". And by "too much" I mean the second half of the movie. I did enjoy the feelings of the first two robots, they were more relatable and I care more about them than the actually look like human characters

loading replies

Not a very well developed story, with a predictable twist at the end. I only kept watching for J1 & J2.

loading replies

Interesting Sci-Fi and worth a look for those interested in AI and robots. The story line was good, you do feel for all the robots and characters. Visually great scenery but as far as the graphics and special effects go, they are low budget. Well written story on a smaller budget sums this one up the best.

I probably need to watch it a few more times to understand what's going on for real....
