Armageddon is one of those effects heavy disaster movies of the 90s, featuring a heavyweight cast and an overly dramatized story. What makes this film special when compared to other similar movies of the era is the somewhat awkward leading trio Willis-Affleck-Tyler, the soundtrack (featuring Aerosmith's timeless power ballad I don't wanna miss a thing), and the terribly aged CGI. And because this movie features space travel there is a lot of said CGI.

I think I can safely say none of the actors rise over mediocrity. Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck aren't particularly famous for their acting skills, and Armageddon is no exception. The story is hardly believable either, but that is just true to Michael Bay's style of making films. It is exciting and huge at times though and there are plenty of dangerous situations - it just takes a good while to get to that point.

This movie seems to be a movie that many people love to hate. I don't see why it has such a bad reputation. It is meant to be an Action/Adventure/Sci-Fi movie, and it definitely lives up to this.

This is a fucking Masterpiece

Chocked full of unbelievable and implausible moments. Takes ages to get interesting. Poor acting. Manic editing. Only watch it if you are also scrolling through something interesting on your phone so you don't waste your time...

Spolier...

They grab Bruce Willis off an oil rig. Fly him 18 hours. Tell him the world is ending. Then he tries to round up his guys... who were on the same oil rig as he was! Somehow they are all over the world, knee deep in new jobs, weird excursions, blah blah, blah, blah.

Horrendous script. Clearly written by an attention-deficit-disordered muppet.

6/10 - and that's only because it is an action movie and it never said it would be anything more.

in Blu-ray and full HD it is awesome. Deep impact was about the people, this is about the mission, Michael Bay makes the mission spectacular

First half is decent, then Michael Bay gets "Space Dementia" and gets carried away in the second half.

If you want some disaster porn in your life, this... well i don't what this is.. is for you.
If you wanna see a bunch of meteorites fall down a city while a Dad walks in on his daughter making love in the middle of a construction site/boat thingy, this is for you. This is the epitome of tonal inconsistency.

And perhaps, that's the job of the movie. To give you some high-stake apocalyptic drama and "guy and his daughter's fiancee reconciliation" bizo. I wasn't entertained by it. Well, how could I?

I'm multi-tasking between daughter issues and a high-stake apocalypse damn it.

this movie is a masterpiece because it simultaneously manages to be for people with minuscule attention spans and also 151 minutes long

Michael Bay delivers a wildly entertaining thrill ride in the high-octane adventure Armageddon. The story follows a group of oil drillers who are asked to save the world from a global extinction event when a comet is headed directly for Earth. Despite the silliness of the plot, J.J. Abrams is able to craft an excellent script that’s fast paced and full of fun characters. Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Steve Buscemi, Peter Stormare, and Liv Tyler form an all-star cast that really work well together and are able to bring a lot of personality to their characters. And Bay’s directing is exceptional; full of high-energy action sequences and iconic imagery that enhance the drama. Additionally, Trevor Rabin’s score is outstanding, capturing all of the bombastic and epic tones that the film is going for. Armageddon is everything that an over-the-top action film should be and more.

This is a true 90's classic. I still remember the Aerosmith music video featuring scenes from this movie and Liv Tyler  playing non stop on TV. Also Chantal Kreviazuk's cover ofLeaving On A Jet Plane .... Good times man... good times!

Armageddon had the potential to be great if it focused primarily on the mission and minimized the emotional side of the story. The mission itself is intense and thrilling, but the film spends too much time on the emotional side of the characters, which takes away from the overall impact. Despite this, the movie's special effects are impressive, and the action sequences are exciting.

If Michael Bay taught astrophysics, I would have been an astronaut by now jamming to Steven Tyler.

I’ve just watched it for the first time today. I knew I won’t miss anything if I don’t watch it at the premiere in the movies. What a ridiculous waste of time. This movie has everything what I hate in american blockbuster megalomaniac movies.

It's neither bad or good, but it's watchable. And if you listen hard to the movie score you can hear the earliest samples of what would become the main theme of National Treasure(2004), also scored by Trevor Rabin.
