An effective survival/animal attack horror with fairly low stakes. I guess survival films don't really have any more to add to the genre because this is a pretty standard fare, but I was quite entertained. It's pretty effective in portraying the intimidating side of nature. Some great suspense leading to the bear appearance. The attack is quite gruesome and the chemistry between the two leads is decent as well. An easy watch.
A low budget film but a great movie! It had me in suspense from the beginning until the end. I definitely recommend watching this movie since it will give you a whole new perspective on the realities of backpacking in foreign country and the importance of being well prepared :)
Nice performances from the leads especially Missy.
The movie is a slow burn, but the inflicted pain on screen is brutal and convincing.
At first it was a little boring but when the bear appears it becomes quite desperate to see.
Better than expected. Has some shocking scenes. I enjoyed it.
Pretty grim scene when the bear turns up, but the movie is well worth a watch. Succeeds in creating fearful suspense. MP is pretty good.
The overall pacing of the movie was pretty good. But let's be honest, who wears a collared shirt while hiking and camping? The bear attack effects were done pretty well.
This was supposedly "based on a true story" but I'm curious as to the actual "true story" itself. Bears are, for the most part, herbivores (although they eat grubs and other insects) and are not known to attack humans and in most cases, only attack when provoked or when defending their own young. Here we seem to have a black bear that decides human flesh is its newest favorite, so it attacks - unprovoked - a couple of tenderfoot campers. There really was no substance to this film at all, and I suppose if it really is based on a "true story", that story was highly, HIGHLY embellished to even eke out a mere 90 minutes here. It wasn't a "bad" movie at all, just really exaggerated and embellished. You have a full hour-and-a-half movie of which only the final 30 minutes even matters; the preceding hour is essentially nothing...NOTHING... except some kind of goofy false build-up to make you think something terrible is going to befall this couple that didn't belong in the woods to begin with. I'll stop short of saying I "regret wasting 90 minutes" on this but I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone else bother with it. There really is nothing to see here. The cover art tells the story without you wasting your time.
Bottom Line: This was a 90-minute highly-exaggerated story that could've been recapped in about 120 seconds on a "top o' the hour" newsreel.
This was awesome. I came across this movie while searching for something with an outdoor/off-grid type story-arc. Goodness gracious, I was not prepared for what this movie turned out to be. It fits in the horror, slasher, thriller genre and a better bear vs. human story than Revenant in that regard. Not the movie I was looking for. But definitely best time I've ever spent watching an unheard of movie. The two main actors were fantastic and well directed.
This popped up as a hidden gem, and it was. I couldn’t find exactly what “low budget” meant as the sites I’ve looked at didn’t list it.
Very well done, maybe a little long as there wasn’t much to the story, but still, Missy was fantastic playing a more heroic version of my wife. I almost thought the couple was us in the beginning as I’d be dumb enough to do what Alex did, and my wife would have been as annoying as she was in the beginning worrying about everything.
But in the end, she’d be alive and I’d be staring out the ass end of a bear, so good for her.

As someone who goes back country hiking and camping often, this movie really hit home and made me consider what I bring on my next trip. The acting and pace was great and I really enjoyed the movie. I did not like the 'artistic' shaky camera-work but fortunately, that was a minor negative in an otherwise great movie!
