A really nice movie where you don’t need to think and there is no mention of covid
It's a great movie if you give it a chance, don't be a moron, it's a great movie.
An unexpected screenplay from the beginning to the end. Even with some fails in the production aspects, the movie is very entertaining and is perfect to unwind.
Time spent with Barb and Star is not time wasted. Two very funny actresses bring these delightful characters to life, and the film as a whole is enjoyably silly. More please.
If you are looking for a completely silly movie, then, look no further. If you need a giggle or a sudden explosive laugh, it’s here. Absurd, preposterous, farcical, ludicrous. It’s therapeutic. I needed it so I give this film a 7 (cathartic) out of 10. [Comedy]
Probably the stupidest movie I've ever seen.
There are some really funny parts in between the mess. It's totally watchable though. I would just bring some edibles beforehand.
My Ratings
10 - I love it, regardless of quality
9 - Very good, might not love but very well done or might love, forgiving some issues
8 - Very enjoyable or Just OK for me but well done
7 - Good
6 - Watchable despite not liking the film/show
5 - Mid
3-4 - Not great, but got through it
1-2 - Very bad/You might be a communist if you like this garbage
Hilariously absurd. Had the same feel as a parody movie almost, although I have no idea what it would be parodying. Regardless, it was surprisingly fun with more than a couple laugh out loud moments.
So bad we couldn't finish it. I mean Kristen Wiig is funny but the middle aged spinster routine from the mid west gets old very very fast. I was struggling to see who the movie was aimed at. It played out like "dispicable me" yet it had adult themes so I fail to see what the audience was. The writing showed promise at the beginning but then seems to be a musical out of no where which does not save the film at all.
Full disclosure - I am a huge Kristen Wiig fan. I've loved her in comedies such as The Skeleton Twins and dramas such as Welcome to Me (both very, very underrated). I also thought that Bridesmaids was waaaaaaaay overrated.
I hated this movie. This is another classic case of a movie having a fairly high Rotten Tomatoes rating (80% at the time of this review) but that number not telling the real story. The comments in the reviews are pretty universal - there's some good stuff in here but there is also a lot wrong with it. The odd thing about this movie is that it is essentially a parody of other parodies. And I loved those parodies - Austin Powers, Airplane, etc. This film felt like one long SNL skit where they just threw stuff up against the wall hoping it would stick. By the end it felt like a bad 70's spy movie where the cheese was heavy and you're just hoping for the ending.

3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar’:
I didn’t want it to end.
Part Austin Powers. Part Romy and Michele. Pure sunshine.
It was ABSOLUTELY ridiculous — but somehow, some way, it worked so well. Loads of humor and heart. The perfect tonic after the past year. It makes me miss going to the movies even more.
Bonus Thought: I cannot WAIT to go on vacation again.
Serotonin levels are going through the roof. Completely wacky and out there but it’s something the world really needs right now and somehow it just.. works? It keeps you invested throughout despite the crazy story it’s got going on. This would’ve been amazing to see at the cinema but I’m so glad I didn’t have to wait another goodness knows how long to finally see it. Finally, 3 words. Jamie. Dornan. Seagulls. This scene alone is worth the rental price. Do it if only to see that part, you won’t regret it
Man these loads of comments of people talking about how hilarious this movie is, they really over sold it. It had a few funny parts, and it was definitely worth watching till the end, but the comical side of it was so overboard and ridiculous, that all the funny parts completely fell flat, as if they were trying way to hard to make you laugh.
“I don't really know more than what I've already said. And some of what I said I'm not even sure I actually know.”
I’m still so sad this never got a theatrical run. Barb and Star is my go-to ‘feel good and laugh’ film and seeing it with an audience would’ve been amazing given how much I’ve laughed watching it on my own.
It keeps holding up for me through every rewatch. The humour is ridiculous and weird but grounded by the incredible heart in the friendship between Barb and Star. Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo keep the emotional truth between their characters so consistent and so wholeheartedly commit to the charmingly bizarre tangents that I trust them every moment of this film and am rewarded with hilarity and heart. I love Jamie Doornam flexing muscles we don’t often get to see him use and he fits seamlessly in Wiig and Mumolo’s world. And all the smaller roles add to the fun and and colour with Reyn Doi as a special shout-out.
Barb and Star is a litmus test film for me now. If someone lets themselves get taken on this journey and appreciates the combination of silliness, love, and friendship, it’s a good sign we’ll get along.
I went in expecting Romy and Michele but this ended up more like Austin Powers. Over the top and ridiculous.
Jamie Dornan was so cute in this, I might have to sit through 50 Shades just for him.
I’m shocked that 3 whole people liked this film enough to post a comment. Shocked. This was the definition of rubbish. My opinion
"it's a not so good"

Kind of a thematic sequel to Austin powers but with old ladies
Its like spy kids with 40 year old ladies! Stupid funny and definitely watchable. The movie does drag a bit towards the third act.
Laid off from their dream jobs as part-time layabout furniture salesmen, two chatty middle-aged Nebraska women splurge on a trip to gulf coast Florida. One last chance to take a risk and try something exciting before easing into their golden years. Groundlings alumni Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo (the duo behind 2011's Bridesmaids) are the titular gossips, all decked out in a series of outfits delivered direct from the 1996 Sears spring catalog, recklessly throwing caution to the wind and partying far past their bedtimes.
There's something silly, yet entrancing, about watching that happen; a pair of picture-perfect squares suddenly empowered to let it all hang out, no matter how ridiculous they might look. Much of the well-targeted humor plays upon that theme, culminating in an unlikely romantic rivalry over a handsome-but-sensitive beau (Jamie Dornan). It's goofy and absurd, maybe a bit on the light side, but good for at least as many chuckles and snickers as a strong modern SNL skit. The screen gets too crowded in the later chapters, though, with a rush of competing sub-plots and bit roles elbowing in on the ladies' extravagance. Those might be good for a one-note laugh here and there, but they're also involved enough to demand some sort of future resolution, and dutifully punching those out during the climax is a chore that weighs down the whole ship.
While the going is good, Barb and Star is loose fun with a few fleeting sharp points, but many of its bits are derivative (Wiig basically plays Dr. Evil in an unnecessary villainous turn) and the home stretch is a drag. Don't let it keep you awake, should you find yourself nodding off: all the best material is in the first hour.
 simple good old fun! it is so silly that i loved it! :heart_exclamation:
I'm sooooooo excited to finally watch this :)

I really got my shimmer back after watching this film. It’s unashamedly silly but the perfect kind of camp comedy. Please go on vacation again Barb and Star.
