Memory plays tricks with us sometimes... I think Nicole should be more shocked waking up ;>
"You had an accident. It was a bad accident. You had head injuries. And you have problems remembering things."
How awful, to find that a whole chunk of your memory is wiped each night, you have to wonder at what type of injury could achieve such a thing.
We don't really find any of that out; what we do see is the unravelling of a web of deceit and a woman with a chequered past, well played by Kidman and Firth but I did find my attention wandering; it's not until the last 15 minutes we have any real action or urgency.
Any film with amnesia as its central conceit is going to leave most experienced film goers anticipating that things are not always as they appear, and this is no exception. This is also very much a film of two halves, split by a rather obvious twist. For the first half of the film, however, the focus is as much on showing the ramifications of having to live with amnesia as it is about setting up the mystery and intrigue and Kidman is excellent as she wakes every day frightened and uncertain. Equally good is Colin Firth, as the husband dealing with having to explain things each day over and over, and the film does a great job of showing the impact the central character’s illness is having on both of them. The film initially drip feeds elements of the central mystery, but the reveal when it occurs is both obvious and a little disappointing. The tone then switches from one of intrigue to a rather predictable thriller and the rather sentimental ending seems out of keeping with the excellent work done in the first half of the film. Some strong performances ensure that the film is watchable throughout, despite the disappointing final act.
Over all a good movie with some twist I wasn't expecting. Most of it is obvious, though. Acting is good and it has a pretty atmospheric setting, which is nice. However, I felt remembered of Memento, and trying to play in that arena, this movie clearly isn't as good, as the original. Non the less, I think it's great to watch.
Watching this in 2024 - it is not something original. Probably it was back in 2014. Anyway both main actors plays their roles amazingly. It is a bit boring though. Maybe because every 10 min there is a repetitive scene.
I think you can skip it if you haven’t watch it by now.
I really enjoyed watching this movie. But I have so many questions, one of which is how did the psychiatrist not figure this out from the beginning???
Very disappointed with this movie. Agonizing to watch so much so that I couldn't make it past the first thirty minute. Boring and sooooo very slow!!
Después de leer el libro esta película es una m... decepcionante.

Good acting, no doubt, but was a very predictable plot... Was a movie like that one with Sandler a Barrymore but twisted and sick.
