This was an unexpected bit of Canadiana and from 1999, too. It fits clearly into its genre but is subject matter would have been rather avant-garde for it’s time (although “about time!” for others). I don’t know how mainstream it would have been for the film community but it featured Canadian royalty (Wendy Crewson and Peter Outerbridge). The tone plays between light and brutal, so it doesn’t shy away from the realities of our out communities. I give this film a 7 (unexpected) out of 10. [Romantic Comedy].
