This is one of those movies. The diamond in a pile of coals. This is the reason you scour Netflix, and clearence bins. This is that new shirt that you found at the thrift store, that you actually like quite a bit. Low budget, freshly original, yet poking a ton of fun at the big budget, and the old classic horror, movies. And dont forget the twist. And then the other twist at the end. I seriously believe there will be a sequel to this movie, so I suggest, er recommend, watching this movie. Honestly, I didnt really like the actors very much, but thats not to say they did a bad job, just the only lovable character was the villian. This movie reminded me mostly of The Collector, but there was Scream, Friday the 13th, and many more scenes within, altogether, extremely interesting. So after you catch up on all of your watchlist, and you just cant seem to find something to watch, try this one, I am sure you'll be pleased.

Suprising, original and constantly entertaining, Better Watch Out really is a fun breath of fresh air in a time when most movies feel predictable and telegraphed. It reminded me of two of my favorite horror comedies of the last years, Krampus for the thematic and tonal similarities, and The Visit for the reunion of stars Olivia DeJonge and Ed Oxenbould.

Damn!! I didn’t expect that and it went into it really fast and got darker and twisted the more in and ended up a decent film with a good ending to it.

This is sth for kids who enjoy "Home alone" but are psychopaths.

This movie has several major twists, which helps it stand out as somewhat original. My problem with it though is, while it tries to have a Funny Games vibe, it doesn't earn the dread that it was looking for. It went too middle of the road between trying to be funny and wanting to be taken seriously that it missed both.

I really do appreciate the attempt, but with some different writing it could have been really great.

The timeline is jacked unless there are carolers out at 1 in the morning. There's no way a 12-year-old could have physically subdued 2 teenage jocks. And how she survives is impossible considering she couldn't move.

Was going to give this an 8/10 but that ending took it down to a 7. That final scene shown during the credits really doesn't help. Should have ended with the cops leaving and Luke standing in his window with a smile on his face. Fuck Ashley! Hehe! ;)

In itself, this movie sucks at 3/10 as a poorly executed mish-mash of horror tropes. Combined with misleading trailers, absurdly inflated ratings and highly unlikable cast, it sucks at 0/10. Appreciate the dread others suffered and stay clear of this turd.

Most scary thing about this movie is that there are people who find it funny.

An original idea and spot on acting yet with a few too many WTFs to make it completely enjoyable.

This was probably the most f*cket up movie I've ever seen... that damn kid still creeps me out.

Full of confidence, I thought I had this film figured out within the first 10 minutes, and I'm so glad I was wrong. Consistently twisty, darkly humourous with a punchy pace, Better Watch Out is a solid holiday-horror-thriller that's best experienced unspoiled. Go in blind, I think you'll be surprised, even if you think you've guessed where it's going from the off.

6.5 / 10 : a bunch of neat little details in the setup; an ending that put it down a point for me.
(insufficient closure, without enough left for a sequel)

Pretty cool not the best but one of the best christmas movies for sure

How unexpectedly fun, fresh, and fucked up. This was not only a refreshing break from the same formulaic home invasion films but stands on its own as a good movie. Best of all, it has an extremely satisfying ending unlike some others in the genre which resolve rather loosely. I definitely recommend watching this.

I actually predicted where it was going. Levi Miller is great though. Even if I wish it stuck with the break in plot. With less of the disturbing torture porn stuff.

loading replies

Home Alone in reverse; this is a darker than expected movie, despite the festive soundtrack trying to convince you otherwise. Not very jolly, a little bit disturbing actually, but the twist on older genre tropes work in its favour.

loading replies

Well that was unexpected. What begins as a standard home-invasion horror takes an interesting turn that you either go with or dismiss entirely. I fell into the former category largely on the strength of the performances, especially Levi Miller, whose role could easily have not worked at all. There is also a natural feel to the dialogue from the start that is also funny, but equally ensures the dramatic twist that the story takes doesn’t completely feel like it hasn’t been earned in some way. The film also does a great job of gradually escalating the tension and building to each plot development that forces the audience to constantly reevaluate where the film is ultimately going to go. Well worth a look.

Decent enough film, mixture of comedy and horror well worth the watch

Thought this was some other cliche movie. But man was not expecting that. Original and entertaining.

That got dark real fast. It's pretty fucked up, actually.

Better Watch Out is a dark and twisted take on the classic John Hughes style holiday comedy. While Ashley is babysitting a home intruder breaks in and stalks her, but things soon take an unexpected twist and become more deadly and disturbing than she first thought. Olivia DeJonge and Levi Miller both give strong performances. Miller in particular makes for a really interesting villain; a psychotic Ferris Bueller who’s ten steps ahead of everyone and is able to roll with unexpected complications. The violence is surprisingly graphic, yet kind of has a satiric edge to it. Still, at times it does tend to get a little overly cruel and mean spirited. While it pushes the envelope a bit too far at times, Better Watch Out is devilishly entertaining with a wicked sense of humor.

The only redeeming quality for this movie was the final minute. Otherwise...meh

this movie pisses me off!

This movie surprised me, which does not happen often. I thought this would be a Home Alone type Christmas movie. And through the first act I felt disappointed because I thought I figured out the obvious twist. But this was a red herring.

I must say I liked the actual twist mainly because it was actually unexpected and refreshing.

Overall, quite entertaining.

I wish this was a meditation on rape culture and the patriarchy, particularly how young boys are shown to exhibit predatory behavior towards women for laughs in media, all written off as cute, funny, and/or "boys will be boys - it's just harmless fun!" With better writing and just a few small tweaks, this movie could have had a powerful analysis to go along with the gore, as the best horror does.

Still, and despite being unbelievable in many ways, this story took me by surprise which is hard to do as I am a) old, and b) a movie buff, so bonus points for that. It was well-acted and creative, not a bad random late night watch.

loading replies

For a movie that made an effort to not be gratuitous, it sure was engrossing! Hallmark Christmas Horror movie!!! I have to admit I was not expecting where it went. Nice ride though.

loading replies

was fair i guess. twist was kinda obvious at some point. still sometimes surprising. ending was a bit lazy. i see what they tried but it was just enough to have a fun evening.

loading replies

A babysitter and a 12 year old boy get mixed up in a home invasion on Christmas, it's no usual home invasion though.

I look forward to watching this one every year it has funny dark humor and lots of twists and turns I never see coming even though i've seen it a couple times. It's non stop fun and thrill from beginning to end and I love the brutal kills. Great performances from the young actors, Levi Miller's got something special here. Great little Christmas thriller for the holidays a real gem. The ending is perfection!

loading replies

Definitely more thriller and horror with just little bit of comedy, but it’s definitely a entertaining movie to watch, especially during the Christmas season.

loading replies

.. just what todays young society needs during the holidays. " NOT "

loading replies

Well, that subverted my expectations.

Go into this blind like I did. Kept me glued to the screen.

Also, there's a lot of voice breaking in this movie from the young two boys. And I do mean A LOT.

loading replies

Don't read any spoilers, this is not one of those movies, it is a gem with some fantastic story that will surprise you sooo good. Amazing turnarounds, extremely entertaining and very original. The ending was superb.

EU NÃO ACREDITO QUE ESSE VIADINHO SE SAFOU DE TUDO, MAIS UMA INJUSTIÇA OS HUMILHADOS FORAM HUMILHADOS

loading replies

interesting and entertaining film framed within a genre very little given to surprise us

loading replies

Well, I'm not gonna lie, I didn't think it would turn out that way.

Was an okay movie but the lines they gave the kids were sometimes just horrible.

loading replies

Fair..It could be better.. Olivia you are godness but in some points i couldnt feel your acting skills..Although a funny horror movie with short runtime you probably going to enjoy.

loading replies

Shit was unexpected and wonderfull. Definitely watch this.

loading replies

Great addition to the holiday horror themed movies. It's like an update to Mikey, set during Christmas with a dash of dark humor. Solid cast of young actors.

loading replies

Its Just Twist!! Everything just Twist, you'll blind!! trust me..
