I really did enjoy this movie. Both Amy and Christoph play fantastic – it was a delight. The story is great and the execution worth watching!
It was a 5 until Hans started lightin shit on fire hahaha
I can't believe this a true story. It is so bizarre, but I like Amy Adams. She was great.

Fresh off a divorce, highly peculiar for the era, a timid young mother throws herself into the art scene of 1950s San Francisco. There, she falls under the spell of Walter Keane, an unspectacular local painter who’s been pestering critics and making “real” artists roll their eyes for years. Together, the two make a sort of magic - while she quietly produces kitschy, haunting portraits, he finds a space to hang them, drums up publicity and schmoozes with the right people. It’s a wildly successful artist/manager partnership, especially when Keane hits on the idea of mass-producing the work to reach a new, lower-income audience, but success goes to his head. Just as they reach the big time, he begins taking credit for her work, and that lie soon eclipses their relationship.
Though it’s directed by Tim Burton, who cites Margaret Keane as an important personal influence, Big Eyes is decidedly un-Burton in most every way. I would’ve expected the director to embrace the more ostentatious aspects of the atomic age, to add his own unique perspective to the creative process and the tackier side of the art scene. Instead, everything just feels run-of-the-mill and workmanlike. He tells the story adequately enough, but adds nothing that wasn’t already printed in the script. Everything’s so blasé, an interesting story told in a thoroughly uninteresting way.
Burton’s gone straight once or twice before - notably in Ed Wood, his most traditional film and first biographical work - but there’s a wide gulf between the emotional punch and subtle character moments of these two films. Even the obligatory accompanying Danny Elfman soundtrack lacks its quirky beats and unmistakable idiosyncrasies. It seems this once-vibrant creative well has run dry, its source content to keep wringing and hope for a few drips of eccentric nostalgia. Nothing so far.
Excellent performances by Amy and Christoph.
Extremely ironic that this story of exploitation of a woman would be not just released by the Weinstein Company (little surprise as it's true of 99% of films, for some odd reason), but was executive produced by the misogynist himself. Apparently Harvey has standing orders to fund all films so he has a stake in their success, but with no knowledge of their subject matter. And that reminds me of Walter Keane.
Tim Burton’s straightest movie in a long time, and one of the strangest cases of spousal abuse I’ve ever heard of. Amy Adams plays Margaret Keane, whose works of art were plagiarized by her megalomaniac husband over a period of many years. Beautifully shot and slightly above average as far as biopics go. (But I have a very low tolerance for biopics, so grain of salt.)
An award winning movie that I saw in theaters? Rare. What's even more rare and more impressive is this being a Tim Burton movie! I am happy to see his range here, and he absolutely nails it! Not my favorite thing in the world, but a rock solid movie nonetheless.

This is a weird one. Not because it had weird elements, but because if it weren't a "based on a true story" I would have thought it to be too far-fetched.
The acting is good, though, and the ending was great. But the rest is a bit monotonous and the characters are not very empathetic.
Heavy-handed women good/men bad
Nice and lovely story for feminists. Just kidding.
Not typical Tim Burton, still a nice drama that's fun and it inspires with love, and finding artistic discovery.
A great session of self-analysis: Burton talk about Margaret Ulbrich but think about his firts movies, talk about Walter & Margaret Keane but think about his latests movies... and hope that he can make again good movie off burton'stereotype as the Modigliani like picture of Margaret... Tim you got it (not like BigFish but a very good movie!)
